Recently I am overloaded with work and couldn't sleep well for some time. I found that I couldn't think properly and is having low performance during work. I try to sleep early but the weather is so hot and it's hard to fall asleep. Do you have any good way to help getting better sleep? Do you face sleeping problem?

I face the same problem too. I think I might be having very minor insomnia. It could possibly due to the temperature as well because it's really hot within the last two months.
I had tried to exercise regularly and found that I can sleep better at night. Besides, my mum told me that drinking milk mixed with honey can also help. Hope this can help with your problem.
Good luck and have a nice day!

You are most welcome. I switch on my air conditioner too, but I could still feel the heat in the room. I think the global warming is really changing the earth climate pattern. I hope the world community take it seriously to reduce the Co2 emission.
I hope you can try it and tell me the result, regarding this unheard remedy. If it really works fine for you, then I will try it as well. But I still think that exercise is having a more direct and obvious effect in helping us to sleep well at night.
Enjoy your weekend and happy posting!

Hi cheongyc, I believe all the people living in the tropical region facing the same scorching weather recently. The highest temperature during daytime is 35 degree C and before this it reached 32 degree C only. It would be really dreadful it the temperature keeps on going up.
I can't fall asleep as well when the night is hot. I usually get all the three windows in my bedroom wide opened. No mosquito would get in as we have fixed all the windows with aluminum gauze to prevent the flying in of the blood sucking insects. The ceiling fan as well as the portable fan will help to make the flowing air cooler. In case I really couldn't tolerate the scorching warmth I then will switch on the air con. I would fall into sound sleep easily in the cold and comfortable environment

Ya, the weather here is hot too. But switch on the air conditioner, and the temperature is under control. So, it isn't the warm environment which cause my insomnia.
I think exercise will help. I didn't go for any sport since a long time ago. It's time to start exercising again. I haven't heard of the remedy of drinking milk mixed with honey. I will try it out. Thanks for your helpful suggestion.

Hi seangchl, other than not to take drinks with caffeine like tea and coffee a few hours before going to bed. I always try to keep my eyes tired by watching my favorite tv programs. Later on I read lots of latest online news. If I still have spare time I usually would like to play an hour of computer games. This really works and I always feel sleepy after 12 am
20 minutes or so before bedtime I get the all the windows of the bedroom opened widely. I turn on the fans as well. The flowing air in the bedroom becomes cold and fresh after I have finished my face cleaning and teeth brushing. It's really comfortable to step in the bedroom then with cool floating air I would fall asleep after lying on the bed for a short while
Happy posting!

If I can't sleep the first thing I do is quit worrying about and get up and meditate.
As a Zen practitioner, I sit upright and focus on my breathing in and out and exclude other thoughts. It is not an easy thing to do, but sitting and stilling the mind in this way is said to be 80% as good as sleep.
If I am hot, I just let myself be hot and focus my mind on it. Pretty soon, I don't notice that I am hot. There are Zen monks in the world, who can elevate and lower their body temperature. Make themselves warmed in icy conditions and cooler in hot conditions. Acceptance is the key because when you fight conditions that you can't do anything about, they can seem to feel worse. _Derek

Thanks for your interesting sharing. I didn't know the Zen monk can increase or decrease their body temperature by just meditate. I think meditation is a really good solution because it's so powerful in controling our body system. So, overcoming insomnia is very simple.
However, I am resigning now from my job, and I can sleep much better now.

Yes, I do sleep well but from last few weeks, due to work load, I couldn't sleep enough just 3-4 hours daily due to which I am not feeling fit by inside. But now my work is done and I have no loads at all. When I sleep at least 6-8 hours, I have observed that I am fit and healthy by inside to do any additional work. Thank God, the phase has gone. It is a rare case not daily. I sleep well. Sleeping helps you to rejuvenate and refresh. Sleep is essential for a person's health and well being. No matter what your age, sleeping well is essential to your physical health and emotional, just make sure your bedroom is cool, dark and quite..
Thanks.

I think the work load and the accompanying stress really affect our sleep quality. It's even proven now because I can sleep better after resigning from current job.
I agree that sleep is very important to our health. That's why I was worried after having some minor insomnia due work related depression.
Thanks for your comment and have a nice day airakumar!

Having a massage would be too costly for me. But taking a delicious meal and taking a nice shower is more probable for me. Thanks for new suggestion!

yeah sometimes i can't sleep cause i'm thinking too much...
i drink you should try drinking sleeping pills..
it's very effective you could get to sleep early but don't take it daily cause it may cause negative side effects on you.. 3 times a week is just right..
or if you don't like taking medicines try drinking a cup of hot milk before going to bed you may think its classic and old fashioned, but it still works..
hope you can have wonderful sleep.. :)

I don't sleep well when I'm under a lot of stress. It just makes it harder and harder to sleep. I try my best to sleep but then I just get myself upset because I can't sleep and then that makes it even harder to sleep.
Whenever I'm less stressed and not as frazzled, I can go back to a semi normal sleeping pattern.

Ya, I agree that the stress is the sleep killer. I am the victim of work related stress, which cause me sleepless at nights. So, I think we have a common enemy to tackle here. We should try our best to resolve the stress we face at work. However, I have no idea on how to do it. Hope I can get more solutions suggested by fellow mylotters here.

Hi Seang, i have been suffering from sleeping disorder for years. It's really hard not to get an 8 hour sleep especially if you have school or work the next day. i am trying to change my sleeping habits because i'll be going back to school this coming semester. i hope the workouts i have been doing lately will help me to get a peaceful and sound sleep... i don't want to try taking sleeping pills because i am afraid of the side effects, if there is any. sometimes the television helps to make me fall asleep. however the problem is, the electricity bill.

In the past, I also had a hard time falling asleep at night. I usually lay in bed for hours before I am able to sleep. Now, I sleep easier. Maybe it is because I am usually tired from work and because I always had to wake up early. So now, I just try to sleep early because I have to wake up at 7 in the morning.

I always sleep well because I will go to bed if not my eyes
claimed to sleep. I keep myself busy so that I could fall
asleep early. You will try to read books, magazines and everything
to keep your eyes busy and that way you tend to sleep early.
That's the thing I did and it is very effective one. You do things
for yourself and you don't notice that it is almost time to sleep
already or your eyes claimed at it.

here are some of my suggestions that helped me put to sleep: have at least once a week body massage. drink relaxing tea (like the sleepytime tea of chamomile & lavender tea). have this really thick book with thick plots, but not those page-turner type of books. have scented lavender candles to induce sleepiness.

I always have a sweet dream, but sometimes have the same problem with you. That is becaues we often think about problems before sleeping. So if you want to have a sweet dream ,you can play basketball, run enough until you feel tierd ,then have a wash and go to bed. I think you can have a sweet dream with this method. You can have a try!

During hot weather it is so hard to sleep. The environment affects us and we are not comfortable even we have two electric fans and we had taken a bath. During hot weather it is easy to perspire and we can’t breathe normally, that is why we feel irritated. As a result, many of us experienced losing sleep and unproductive in the morning. There is no remedy during hot weather because all of us have the same experiences. If you have money buy air conditioner to get comfortable sleep or we have no choice but to accept the situation.

I have been sleeping very well lately, but if I struggle I usually have a chamomile tea and burn some lavender oil in an oil burner. They are both very calming and help me get off to sleep. Yoga also helps with relaxation and it sounds like you need to de-stress so may work for you.

Thanks for the good remedy suggeseted. But I doubt I got the luxury of spare time to go for Yoga. My root problem is having stress at work. Definitely, I will find ways to reduce my stress faced at work.
I can try to drink the chamomile tea and enjoy the lavender oil aroma therapy. It should help me then. Thanks again!

It is actually a rather frequent thing for me to have a hard time falling asleep. However, since I've been struggling with this for quite some time in my life, I have found that one of the best things that I can do in order to get some sleep is to turn my mind off before I try to go to sleep. The way that I personally do this is to read before I go to sleep. I will read for a few minutes and try not to think about other things that are going on in my life. This typically works for me.

Ya, stress will make us sleepless. So, we should focus on reducing our stress, and we will sleep properly after that. The problem is I feel that it's not easy to reduce the stress I face at work. I got a very demanding counterpart and it's tough to deal with them. So, I am thinking a way to deal with such situation in order to get a good sleep.

Yes. There are many ways to improve sleep. The best way is to do something relaxing. Bubble bath, book, warm milk. There are pills. But these cause problems in actually waking up. You can go to the health food store, they sell things to improve sleep. like teas, and candles, and other drinks. You can buy all these products, but some good old fasion relaxin' works just as well. :)

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I will try them out. However, I am hesitated to try the pills, because I could get addicted to it. Once got addicted, I won't fall asleep easily without the pills. It will be risky to health in long term. Tea , other drinks and candles are good ideas!
