I was in a cue to renew my passport. The person in front of me was being asked by an officer in charge & can't help but overheard them & It seems he can't remember his own birthplace as well his mother's maiden name.At first I can't believe how could he forget but just thought that maybe others just forget it...Are you one of those of treasure that or forget it? Do you still remember where you were born? the exact place? How about your mother maiden's name? I was born at home in General Santos City,Philippines. And my mother's maiden name,by heart I will never forget it,always carry it in my name...Espanola..How about your dear friend & fellow mylotters,do you still remember where you were born? How about your mother's maiden name? Feel free to share...have a great day !!!

of course, only the senile and those with alzheimer's or parkinson's disease my not remember these two important facts of their life and existence. what you overheard may be related to the common practice of getting a passport with another name and a new set of data fabricated to get a passport, which is rampant in many parts of the world. that is why, the guy cannot remember his "fabricated" birthplace and mother's name... i hope i am wrong...

hi bystander,
You have a point in there,In fact I did thought of that,She is still young ,doesn't look like she is having memory problem nor a person being deprived of this information as she was arguing with the officer. When I was behind in the queue,I really thought of identity thief but I know the person in-charge will know it as they are exposed to this type of fraud issues.Just hope they sorted it out.Have a great day!

Sometimes I wonder if I have a terrible Memory when I meet somebody who might recognise me from Years back, and I can't put a name to the face! You'd think going to either apply for a passport,or renew one, you'd have the details of your background on hand with all the documentation They require for the application..Top of the list is probably your Birth Certificate, which would (In the "Long Form" Version, anyway (UK) ) have your Parent's details..How Old was this Guy,did you think? Could He have been an Orphan with no background Documents? If He'd grown up with his Family and had no Memory problems,I don't see how he'd not have known where He was Born..As for Me,I know where I was Born,I still carry the Accent of My former Home City, and I lived with My Mother's Parents until they Passed Away..Did this Guy get his issues sorted out while you were still there in line?

hello shepherd,
I can relate to you,it's so embarrassing when someone recognizes you & you can't even remember the name.Well, the in-charge actually told her to wait & see his superior so he can accommodate the people in queue behind her as it is causing delay because she is actually arguing with him that she forget & it's not her who applied for her birth records certificate, but then I was wondering how she doesn't know or let me say how could she forget where the fact is that she I guess is only in her early or mid 30s.After then,no idea what happened because I have done renewing my passport and have to leave.I really hope she sorted it out if the person is really her & if she just stole another person's identity, hopefully, the authorities will do what is necessary.

Unfortunately,Identity theft is another factor that might have to be considered in that situation,as it does appear at least a bit suspicious that someone could forget such things and not be able to produce evidence to support their application for the Authorities..

With such pertinent information like you have mentioned, yes, I do remember them all. I guess perhaps the one being questioned is an aged person and someone who knows better would be helpful.

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia at South Fulton General Hospital. My mother's maiden name is Hankey and that is something that I will never forget.
A funny story about this is when my husband was getting his driver's license for the first time he learned that his last name was actually his mother's maiden name though he'd lived the first sixteen years of his life thinking that his last name was his father's last name (he was never formally adopted by his step father).

Of course, I can still remember where I was born and my mother's full maiden name. When I say full maiden's name, I mean her first name, her middle name (and not only the initial) and surname when she was still single. How can I forget that when I used to put the whole thing in my credit card application...hahaha!. Anyway, I was born in Manila and my mother's maiden name is Imelda Tono Pranillos.

Yes it's not common that people forget their birthplace and their mother's maiden name, but do you know that it's possible? I have a friend who grew up with her relatives and she don't know her mother's real name and its whereabouts. Her relatives to where she stays are mad with her mother that they don't want her to know anything about her mother. Well, I don't know the real story but this really happen and I really pity my friend.

Yes, at my age right now I still remember it. Just like you I remember it by hear. M y mother’s maiden name is always asked whenever I am applying for credit cards and load. Even when I am doing email address it is being asked. To where I was born is the same place I am living right now so it will be difficult for me to forget about it. Maybe that person has a sign of Alzheimer’s disease at that age or he or she maybe were nervous that is why they experienced mental block.

I have a hard time believing that he couldn't remember where he was born, or that he couldn't remember his mother's maiden name. That should have thrown up ALL KINDS of red flags to the people in that office. I was born in Metter, Georgia, and I know my mother's maiden name...

I can't imagine how anyone could forget that most important of things. sounds to me like the person maybe didn't have a good upbringing and maybe his mother never told him her maiden name...but still, that would seem to me to pretty unusual. But your birthplace! How could you forget that??

yes I do remember of birth , date of birth, time of birth and day of birth as well. I also know my mother's maiden name, my grandmother's maiden name and also my father's grandmother's maiden name.
In my society everyone has to marry within some group of surnames and that is the reason everyone knows at leaast last 3 generation details and so I know all these details. There is a book written by my grandfather which has all the details of our caste origin and all previous generation till us.

Hi shenlynn! Of course I remember where I was born and my mother's
maiden name! How could anyone ever forget such important information?
I know where and when I was born, and of course, it is also on my
birth certificate! These days you had better know the answers to these
questions, especially if you live in the USA and are travelling anywere
even within the USA! I don't understand how people could forget no matter
how old they are unless they were put in Foster Care and sent from one
home to another! Other than that or adoption there doesn't seem to make
any sense to forget something some simple to remember!

I know the city I was born in, but I don't know the name of the hospital. I also know my mom's maiden name. It is easy to remember because it is so uncommon. I get nervous when people ask me unexpected questions. Sometimes I forget simple things, only to remember later. It was just that I was nervous. Sometimes I forget my own telephone number! That is really embarrassing.

Hi shenlynn7823,
It is something which one cannot forget. I do remember my birthplace and also my mother's maiden name. I remember the exact place where I had born and the hospital's name and place also. My mother told me that and I still remember. I have also seen that place. Thanks you remind me again that place and my mother;s maiden name as well. Although, I don't use my mother's maiden name with my name but I remember it and won't forget till I am alive.
Thanks.

My mother was born in Cebu City, Philippines and her maiden name is Cabañesas. There's no sense why one forgot his/her roots. Is he or a she. You know men easily forget. Remembering surnames is very important, just like remembering events that happened in your life because we women are very melancholic and we treasured everything.
