Hands up who friggin hates it? Everyone does it to me! They treat me like an idiot and tell me to do or not to do the simplest things that even my tiny mind would be able to think of all by itself!
Do people treat you like you're a bit stupid?
Does it bother you?
What do you do about it if it does?
Why do you think people do it?

Yes, being patronised is one of life's little annoyances, isn't it? I take the RAFI approach, that's Rattle And Forget It. Usually I just make grocery (or to-do) lists in my head and politely ignore what is being said to me. Of course I thank whoever for their thoughts.
Over time, I've realized that it does no good to let some one know that their 'directions' aren't appreciated. It's a sign of their tiny minds that they can't grasp the concept that advice is not needed or wanted.

I think it happens to all of us on ocassion and depending on the mood I am in will determine my response. Usually I come back with some smart butt response like "Really, would of never thought of that on my own."
I think people do it becuase they are questioning/trying to prove thier own intelligence. What they do not realize is that it makes me think that they are not so bright because they are stating the obvious.
