What actually gets you out of the house and to the theater to see a movie?

I do admit I have not seen many movies in recent years, due to the simple fact that the theater is quite the journey from my house and the costs of going are not within my budget most times. Most of the time, I just wait for the DVD to come out and see it that way. However, there are a few times every now and again where I just have to go out and see that movie right away? Sometimes the trailer just gives me that must see vibe or perhaps it is an actor that I know always puts in a great performance. So how about you? What gets you out of the house to see a movie at a theater as opposed to watching the DVD later on? Looking forward to your responses.

I don't go see movies every week, but I do go see movies fairly often. Maybe about once a month, skipping over some months and going twice in others. There are two things that get me out of the house to see a movie in theaters. One, I really (for whatever reason) want to see it. Two, my friends are with me and they (for whatever reason) want to see it. I usually want to see a movie in theaters because I've read the book the movie is based on, or seen and liked the trailer for it, or I like the studio that produces it. I don't go see movies for actors or directors. EVER. Two movies I will definitely be seeing in theaters this year (and most likely on opening day) are Eclipse and The Last Airbender. I really want to see these movies!

That is where most people that I know are too. They are going to go because it is something that is interesting to see and that it is something that people that are their friends are considering to seeing. Of course, it has been a while for me to find that common ground, but still it does happen every and now again. The distance factor is what kills me, due to there not being a place around here that is close. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Distance isn't really much of a problem here... there are movie theaters on every street corner! lol But money and time are. I'm not willing to pay for most movies. There are very few movies that come out these days that I want to see. I'll only go see movies with my friends if I don't mind seeing the movie they want to see. If I know it's going to be a bad movie for me to watch, I'll try to work my way out of it!

In most cases, it was my bf who asks me out to see the movies in theaters. I like movies with good effects. I enjoy watching the in 3D or IMAX. But in most cases, the movies that I watch in the theaters are action movies, animation, sci-fi and suspense/thriller films.

Going with someone tends to justify the trip a lot of the times. If you can find a common ground that is. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

This year I have seen 3, count them 3! , films in the theater. Why? Two of them had actors nominated for Oscars and I Hac to see them. I say them back to back! I was lucky, I was given a movie card for Christmas last yearor so. So my ticket was paid for . All I needecwas busfare. The theater isn't too far from home . But with the last one, It was a very far trip . But it is my favorite theater. I saw the last one Purely for pleasure. I loved the trailer and I had the last of the movie card , so I went . It was great. ps. The two movies I saw back to back were Crazy Heart and A Single Man. The last was The Losers.

Yes, when you hear raves, that tends to have some input to your decision. I agree as well, a catchy trailer can also give the nudge. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I mostly watch movies which i download from internet. Most of the time movie prints are not good and some scenes are cut. So when i see that there is a movie i would like to watch as soon as i can with the best print sound quality and with popcorn :D. i just go over to the theatre.

Very true and very good point. If its worth the time, then it will be worth he time to go. However, if its not, then it makes little difference if you go to the theater or not. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Like you I rarely go to the cinema, for a variety of reasons including expense and that where I live no longer has one. But the thing which will make me go to the cinema is the combination of a good storyline with a movie obviously designed to impress on the big screen. For example "Avatar", love it or loathe it, is a movie which works best on the big screen. Yet something like "Precious" is just as good on the small screen. So it has to be a movie which will work best on the big screen but has a storyline to back things up because I can't bare to watch a movie which is all glitz, glam and special effects yet devoid of a story which engages you mentally.

Some good points for certain. Some movies look better on the big screen. Other movies, it really does not matter. You get pretty much the same amount of quality either well. Still it has to catch my eye and be impressive, a bit beyond the pack. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

We always have to look out for the nice and good movies then that's the time we have to go out and watch a movie in the theater. Most of the time, there arent any interesting movies in the theaters so we just stay at home and watch a movie. We also need not to go to the movies if the movie is not worth watching in the theater.

Very, true, you have to pick what movies you watch rather wisely. There are a few that are worth there time. However, you have to shift through all of the movies that are not worth watching to find those movies. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well.

Hi megamatt, Movies like Titanic, the sound, photography, glamour, we should watch only in theater then we will have satisfaction of watching a movie. In DVD or in TV you will not get that effects. So i like to watch such movies in theater only.

Yes, certain movies are better out in the theater. Others should just be waited for. I guess in the end it depends on what your own personal perception is. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Dragging me out of the house, to pay for the movie and outrageous pricey snacks, requires skills from my husband and kids. I'm totally against it, because Hollywood just makes the same movies over and over. Some movies are so bad, you can guess who the killer is within the first 15 minutes or literally predict the entire movie, including the ending. I usually prefer spending $1 at the Redbox, because atleast if the movies a dud, then it's no big deal.

Yes, it does seem like there are a lot of bad movies these days that are not even worth thinking about going to see. All of the remakes can be a bit and whenever I see a remake, I just cringe and roll my eyes. I guess this is one of the darkest ages in Hollywood in many ways. The rare gem has to be a really good one to even get me to unclench my fist and pay the money. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I could not have said it better myself. Of course, to me good movies are fewer and further between these days than ever before. Once or twice a year maybe, at the most. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
