How do I start?

I just started applications for article writing and this one site emailed me for article requests for specific clients. The topics are not familiar to me so I really have no idea what to write about. They've given me sites as references, I guess it's what those articles are to be used in.
So if your writing for an unfamiliar topic, how do you really start? The help you can give will be so much appreciated.

first thing to do is research..research and more research.
once all the information is stacked up in front of you, then composing the right article will be easier, as you have the facts that is necessary to do it
some creative people just get as high as possible...then they'll be ab;e to write about absolutely anything under the sun. and the best part is most of the time, those articles actually make sense

yup..without the proper facts that you can only get from research, your article would be fictional.
cool to know that you've already started your research and stuff. i'm sure it'll be a great article dude!

Hi Basqui!!
I've been doing article writing for a month now. When I first got an assignment I really got nosebleed because i really don't know where to start and how to do it. I think I've read that one of your friends talked about keywords. Keywords are very important when it comes to article writing.

Start researching for the contents. If you are into researching, then writing will come second nature to you. It's like cooking; where you have to look for the ingredients, and then with the recipe in mind, you may start cooking. If it's an unfamiliar topic, you might want to read a few stuffs out there and get some form of understanding from what you read or something. Hope this helps..

I usually feel quite overwhelmed when I have to write about something that is unfamiliar to me. I usually start by researching the topic generally via the Internet and copying and pasting as much information that I can find. With each piece of info I always copy and paste the link I got it from because in a lot of articles that is requirement and you need to note the link if you quote anything. Once I have all my information and where I got it from, I slowly start to piece it together which can take a little while. If you keep fine tuning as you go you will find a great article in front of you before you know it! One more obvious tip, don’t forget to spell check! Good luck!

I usually proof read it myself and ask my husband to take a look at the finished product just before I submit it. All the best...Let us know how you go...

I am writing articles requested by certain clients for specific topics. Most of the topics are unfamiliar to me. But most of the clients have included specific keywords to be used in the article. I took it from there. Taking notes of the keywords to help me decide what to search and what to write about. Keywords are really the KEY to write an article.
I hope this will be able to help you. Goodluck, my dear.:-)

When you have to write about a subject that you don't know anything about, my recommendation would be to start out with some research. Before you can even start to write about a subject that you've been previously unfamiliar with, you need to gain at least a rudimentar amount of knowledge about it. That should be enough for you to write an outline about the subject. Then, as you've identified those things that will be the main points, then learn more about those things and then you will be able to write your article.

If i were to get an unfamiliar topic, i guess i will just reject it.. BEcause i wont want to waste my time on doing research on something i dun like, and after all the hard work, it's being rejected for it's being too common, like all others.. haha =D
MOney making is important, so is time.. WIth the time spent, i would rather be doing something i'm good or familiar with.. haha

I think the best thing for you to do is start with one of the subjects and take a good hour to research about them. Write down the name of the sites you researched the subject from. If you can use books as references but ask the article requester as to whether they'd like internet research online or also research from books in the library as well. Use encyclopedia sites like Britannica or wikipedia.

I'm not really an article writer but I can only suggest what others have already suggest and that is research. I think even if your research gives you the same information over and over again try to write in a more unique approach so you can catch the attention of the reader. I'm not an expert so don't take my word for it

I have to say that I am not an expert in article writing exactly, but I did have to write papers for classes that frankly, I had no interest in whatsoever - I basically didn't know much about the subject and had no desire to learn it. I found that the best thing to do was open a word document and make a general outline. After that, I would start in the middle and as thoughts occurred to me that would belong in different sections, I would type them into that section. After awhile, I would have one section done, and 3 or 4 topic sentences for each of the other sections. The introduction and ending would come easily once I had the middle sections completed. I have written a few articles using this same method, but haven't had the guts to submit them yet.
Do you have links to these article writing sites in your profile? I have a hard time just sitting down and writing something - I think it would be much easier if I had some sort of direction as to what to write about.

Uhm, so you are suggesting an outline first huh? That's a good idea.. The site requires 300-500 words so I think I can't make that much.
Add me up as friend coz I have no links on my profile yet, haven't have time to customize it. And I'll send you a PM and maybe you could guide me sometime on writings?

Hi,
Glad that you are thinking about writing!
Now, if the topics are not familiar, do an online search. Give keywords and its variants. Suppose you have to write on 'email marketing'- search net with keywords like 'how to do email marketing', 'tips for email marketing', 'email marketing advantages' and so on. Before beginning to write, formulate what to write upon. Channelize thoughts and draw an outline. Like if you are writing an 'advantage of email marketing', then the outline could be- an brief intro, listing the advantages in bullets, and then conclusion.
We cannot know all topics to write about. Set some time for research and then do not forget to review it after writing.
PS: if you don't mind, what site is it? I am interested to join through your referral.
