No To Dog Meat!

Before I give my response, I have dogs and I personally do not think that I could knowingly eat dog meat. The idea of consuming dog meat personally bothers me, but I can understand why it would be consumed in other countries. So, I can understand the way you feel, though it makes no sense that you are defending dogs when you are not defending cows, pigs, chicken, deer, and other animals that are also used for meat. Is it okay to eat these animals, but not okay to eat dog meat? I may be speaking out of ignorance, but I am sure that it is cheaper in other countries that are not as well off to breed dogs for meat instead of cows and other expensive livestock. Also, while we consider dogs pets and "man's best friend," it does not mean that every other country feels the same way. In the United States, for instance, it is even considered illegal in most places to eat dog meat (Wikipedia: "In the United States, it is considered a social taboo and illegal in some jurisdictions to eat dogs or other animals traditionally considered to be pets or companion animals" ) but in other countries they do not have these laws, and it is even considered part of their culture. Also, to note, you can only get rabies from dogs if the dog actually has rabies. There are countries that raise dogs specifically for eating (the same way that other countries raise cattle, pigs, et cetera), so these animals are not likely to be rabid unless they are in the open and coming in contact with infected animals. Unless someone is down to the wire it is probably not too likely that they are just going to grab a random dog right off of the streets.

It is not well known but dogs were eaten in a large part of Europe in the XIXth century. The last butcher shop specialized in dog meat disappeared in France circa 1918 and in Germany in 1940. They are still eaten in Swiss, a country with strict sanitary rules and strict laws for animal protection. I don't think that there is any danger, but I will never eat dog meat ! I don't want to judge the customs of other people ; I think that it is barbarous only when somebody eat a pet dog.

candyfairy oh that so gross it makes me sick to my tummy just thinking about it and those pictures are so sad. to me dogs are pets and are for loving and caring for. surely there are enough cattle,pigs, and other meats that are raised for food without slaughtering our pet dogs and cats. how can people do this as its so inhumane, I would never eat dog' meat,that's just plain sickening.

Me and my wife together with her entire family really love animals most especially dogs and cats. That is why we really hate those eating dogs as well as cats meats. These animals were meant for pets and not for consumption. Regarding rabies, yes it can be transferred to human beings by eating their meat. This was according to the studies I've read by some of the medical experts.

yeah i agree.. Dogs are our bestfriends in life.. they are supposed to be loved not to be eaten.. eating a dog's meat is similar in eating a human's meat because we lived up to this world treating dog's as a part of our family. so making a dog as a food is very-very devil way.. i think we have a bill for that kind of thing, a person who kills animals in a very unpleasant way must be imprisoned..

I saw the ultimate 'hot dog' when we visited Albania while on holiday in Corfu. There on the street they actually had a dog cooking on a spit There is no way that I would knowingly eat dog!!!

You will have to forgive me as I will not be looking at that link. I believe a dog is a pet in home, and part of the family. Not something to be eaten, it is very nasty to hear that they are being prepared for the dinner table in some places, and it makes me sick thinking about eating the dog.

Hi, candyfairy21. I don't think that I could ever eat dog meat. That is so nasty. Why would people want to eat an animal that they love as a pet? That is just nasty!

It is not part of my culture to eat dog´s meat nor is it part of any person I know. But I accept that in other parts of the world it nay be accepted. The Bible forbid once to eat pork. I think it was because pork meat was unsafe to eat when the book was written. I love some pork ribs (YUMMY!) and it´s the best part of a barbecue for me. Some people have bunnies as pets. It would be horrible to eat that rabbit. Nevertheless, rabbits are wonderful food. I don´t think the word "pet" should be mixed with the words "meat to eat". You raised a dog to be your pet; other people raise dogs to be eaten. Not in my country, at least not that I know. But we eat all sorts of weird meat. Have you seen how cute little turkeys are, walking in a single file behing their mom? And o think they will end at a Thanksgiving table!!! See? All is relative. Take care!

I think it's disgusting.They are pets not meant for food.Thats what chickens and beef are for.I found that out myself,and was disgusted on what they do to these poor animals,that are our pets.It's sickening.I'm happy in my country such a thing is against the law.Here where I live animals have rights.

We just had a conversation on a similar subject this evening. Now, I would never even consider eating dog meat. It wouldn't matter if there was very little access to the foods that we would consider to be typical in our society, I wouldn't eat dog meat. It isn't so much that I would consider the meat of a dog to be unhygenic. Instead, the reason that I wouldn't be able to eat it is because of the fact that my family has always had dogs as pets and I couldn't begin to imagine eating an animal that has been a part of my family.

Hi candyfairy21, yuck for those people who eat dogs meat. Dogs who strayed are unhygienic to eat but dogs with breeding is expensive and should of course not be eaten. I'm an animal lover and I hate people who eat dogs meat. Strayed dogs also should not be eaten; just because nobody cares for them doesn't mean people has the right to eat them. Have you watch channel 54? There's a show about animals and how some abuse them. It's so sad especially they knew they will die by the look in their eyes. As if they're begging and it makes me mad at the perpetrators.

I hate it when they kill dogs and eat their meat. I hope they will be put to jail for doing that. Here in my country its rampant and i hope they will be caught and put to jail. Poor dogs. Its actually not safe to eat their meat because of the rabies.

DOG MEAT, YUKKKKKKK, but yes its true some people eat dog meat and in some areas around globe dogs meat is considered delicacy, but I don't understand how can people eat dog meat, for me dog is the cuteest pet , so the thought of it makes me nauseate.
