Do you mark the first response you get ona discussion as a "best response"?

Some people tend to mark the first response they recieve on any discussion as a best response, and do not wait for the other responses to arrive, which can be disappointing to other users, many a times i have seen that the first responses are marked as best responses in a discussion, when there are also 3 other pages of responses just waiting to be seen,
do you think that those people just mark it becuase they want to save the trouble of having to read all those other comments or because they just think that no one else would respond after some time and so click on the first respose, but then the responses start filing in? And what do you think of such people? that they should award such precious gifts to those people who have rightfully earned it through a positive and fruitfull response or just the first response on sight?
Please respond, you might find yourself to be marked "best response"... but not if you responded first, only if i think your response if deserving.(that statment is quite commanding and strict, i know)

Me too pokster! I just looked and saw the best response tab, I have asked tons of questions so now I have to go back. =( But since I read most of (if not all) the responses then I sort of have an idea of which ones were better than others.

Yeah, that's what I will do, Maybe I could let the topic or discussion mature for three days or more because others would still be responding at the end of the day so if there are no activities in that discussion then that could be the right time to mark the best response.

I usually wait several days for all the responses to come in.
However there have been a couple of times when I have received such excellent replies that I knew they couldn't be bettered and marked them 'best' earlier.
My criteria for marking 'best' is that the reply is informative, well written, entertaining and constructive - humour does add a few points for me as well.
An interesting discussion, thank you.

I try to be as fair as possible to all responses from my discussions. I wait a reasonable amount of time and go over each response to choose the best one. i do not choose the first response as the best response. I never know until I read responses which one will strike me as being the best response. Every response and comment at mylot is important and should br given the proper credit.

hi sender621,
i think you are fair by not marking the first response as the best response, and you also truly value the importance of a "best response", a very remarkable quality here on mylot, :)
anyways, thankyou for responding, and whatever.
i mean, happy-mylotting!!

you wait for other responsees to appear! Yaay! that means everyone else gets a chance to, like you said you need to scan all your responses and then make sure which one explains the best answer to your question, good.
Happy-mylotting
And thank you for your response. :)

I don't mark the first response on a discussion as "best response". I wait for other responses to come and if none does , I still won't reward the first responder with title of best because I feel that they don't really deserve it as they didn't compete for it. I think people mark the first response they see as "best" because they aren't sure if more people will come along and post a comment , so they reward the first person they see. Can you blame them? I've seen discussions that are 3 years old and don't have a single response... That just makes me go "WOW". They shouldn't do this. They should hold out for others to come , so that the discussion doesn't instantly die either because as soon as a best response is found , sometimes other Mylotters (the ones intent on making money) aren't inclined to answer.
:) Have a nice day.

Well you cant blame people who might have a bad response. I mean everyone has his/her own views and opinion. It depends on the reader if he/she approves the respond in the way they response on the subject matter. I believe that we have the right to express of what we feel.

okay, maxyl12,
i totally agree with you, users are wanted to express how they feel and if we dont mark their response as the best response, thats strictly our opinion, but the responder fully and truly desciribed and expressed what they felt was right to go in their response,
but,
my discussion is about those people who mark the first response they recieve as the best response, not hwy they mark it, althogh this is a very good response and i think that it came straight from your heart, :)

and thankyou for your response.

this is not a track and field sport. I don't think it's necessary to reward the fastest and first responder. Of course I appreciate the first responder very much for giving such a prompt reply. I would like to read all the responses after a few weeks or so to pick the best post which really hits the right nail. So every response has the same opportunity to gain the BR. It doesn't matter it is the first one or in the one in any other box. This is my way to pick the BR response
I know everyone has his own criterion to pick a BR and I respect his decision. I find difficulty to choose a BR if there are more than one post which have the same good qualities respectively. this will take me quite a longer time to make a decision by reading them again and again.....
Happy posting!

I try to be fair. I will choose the best response and I don't care whether it is the first or last response. I will review all the responses and then make up my mind. But if there is only one response for my discussion, then needless to say it is the best one:)

hi youless,
first of all, where did " I love China " come from? :) second, i ALWAYS wanted to go to China, even though thats beside the point, okay, now, i think you do the right thing for those innnocent reponders that are just surfing through the internet and suddenly land on an interesting discussion that they find to their ineterets, and hope that would score a best response on that, so , you should be proud of yourself,
thankyou for your response and happy-mylotting!!

No I would not select the first response as the best. I would wait until I see some other response and they select the best of those.
You are correct. People who give best response should only be marked as best.
Blindly marking the first one as best is not fair for those who take time and put in efforts to respond.

I don't normally mark the first response I get on my discussion as "best response." I still wait for 3-7 days to choose who deserve my "best response" mark. But, I make sure that I rate all their responses. Because, it has something to do with our earnings.
It is very important that we give our "best response" mark to someone who deserves it and exert much effort on their response not to compromise to quality of all their response.
However, it's a reality that some people don't have a self-discipline as we all came from different cultures and values in life.
Happy mylotting... =)
