My Google search on myself

I hadn't typed my own name in to do a Google search in a while so I decided to check it out and see what I came up with. The results were some user profiles at various sites and some of my articles. One interesting result was a film credit on an independent project I helped out with where I ended up not staying to the end but they were nice enough to credit me as the location scout. Right. I just followed a link that describes one of my helium articles but takes me to a page that appears to be selling books and videos. I can't even find a link page recommending my article. I find this very curious. I clicked on one link and when the page loaded it was read and I was greeted with "Warning, continuing to this site may harm your computer!" What the...? It is so interesting seeing what comes up when you google yourself! I just became a board member for YES and it's already online! Every friggin' thing you have ever done in life is apparently indexed on the internet in some way, shape or form. It doesn't matter if you have supplied information or not! An article I republished from helium to AC on "Things to do in New Orleans on a Budget" is apparently being featured on something called Buzztracker. I am happy to see many of my blog posts appear to have been indexed. This is really fascinating!

I was very surprised to see all the entries under my name nothing bad it seemed like mainly from my facebook post that I made on other people pages and it also listed the last city that I lived and the high school that I went to......

I mainly looked to see how many of my articles would come up. I am starting to create backlinks for my content but I did find a lot of personal stuff that should not be on there without my permission. I don't think anyone's address or telephone number should be searchable online just by entering their name. That could be dangerous.

I think it would have given you immense pleasure seeing yourself spread over many of the sites like a celebrity. Your search gives an interesting insight on goggling our name.

OH My Gosh! Five pages of results, which are due to your hard work. It is very hot and sultry here, almost unbearable.

I can only imagine. It is pretty hot here and it is only going to get hotter over the next few months.

Hi dpk!!! I don't know about immense pleasure but there were 5 pages of results so I guess that says something. Items that have come up in past searches were no longer there though I did not search with my middle initial (maybe I'll try again today). How are things in your part of the world?

I tested this too. It is unbelievable - you cannot do many things online without being seen.. There was at least one person with the exact name as mine, but she was an athlete, so it was definitely not me.. Facebook seems to be recording a lot - better be careful and not say anything you do not want everyone to know when you make comments there.. At least we see that the Internet is kind of efficient..

Well, everything you post online eventually gets indexed by the search engines. That is why you see the Facebook stuff in your search results.

haha Canellita, you have nothing better to do? Fortunately you do not have too many aliases, otherwise you have to spend hours analyzing yourself. Sometimes the link you see is just RSS feed. RSS feed generally use the title, author's name and a sentence or two. I think that is why you see the link in unlikely pages.

Ah, I see. I am almost finished adding my helium links to Redgage and then I will have more time to learn about feeds. I can remember a time when I used to sit and try to come up with something to write about and now I have too many ideas for too much content!

Hi C, Congratulations for making it to other sites. I am proud of you. I can feel the joy and you are sharing it with me right now. i know the feelings as i had experience such too. i made a manual on adolescent reproductive health (arh)focusing on lifeskills and i was contacted by another organization working with youth to do a manual for them and conduct a training for their youth. i was so surprise how they got my contact and how they learned about my expertise on arh and they told me that they browsed my name and found me there...amazing and inspiring. That is truly your mission friend...a calling to be a great writer.

LOL, that would be so many! If you go to my profile page and look at the discussions I have started recently you can pick one and see what those two have been up to. You could also follow us through scheng's discussions. We have been talking about writing but it always gets silly.

Actually I did this to myself. I got some blogs of my own and some places in Germany for my name.

I was thinking of doing that but didn't come round to it till I read your post. Heeheehee, thank god there isn't anything connected to obsenity with my name.

ROFLOL! Hi Ongtina! It never occurred to me there might be anything "obscene" out there and thank goodness there is not or I would have had to hunt the contributor down. Wouldn't that be awful?

i've also done that.. and the results are interesting even though my name is very unique, it shows that many people has the same name as mine.. i think its just only 10 but its still many for me.. and i tried contacting all of them and its funny that they also have the same interest and have some similarities in personality.. its amazing... :)

It is interesting that you would find your name again. One of the results I saw online had a meaning for my name. In my entire 40+ years no one has even been able to tell me what my name meant and what I read today was not exactly appealing.
