What is the best way to turn down a job offer?

I have been searching for a new company for the past couple of days now. I applied for one of the biggest companies here and I went through all the rigorous interviews and tests. This global company has been around for several years now and there are a lot of opportunities for learning and career growth.
I was overwhelmed that I got accepted but when we reached to the job offer stage I was suddenly underwhelmed. What they offered was not the salary that I expected. They do not even give allowances which should be standard in a company. I was also assigned in a graveyard shift 9pm to 6am but they are not willing to give me a night differential pay which is mandated by our government.
I am given 2 days to arrive at a decision if I will take their offer. I have been thinking about it and I realized that I will not accept the offer and I will not sign the job contract.
Have you experienced this before? How did you deal with it? Do you think calling the company or sending them an email that I will not accept the offer is appropriate or should I personally go there and decline the offer?
Your response will be very much appreciated. Happy MyLotting to all!

Turning down offers is easy and by all means for the future of your career you should go there personally to decline the offer and don't forget to state the reasons why you are turning down the offer this will show your professionalism and you knowledge in laws protecting employees, a lot of company out there try to use the ignorance of their employees to exploit them! don't be fooled by the idea that you need money , a job etc, choosing you career is an very important and you should get what you expect and what you expect is the "value" that you have given yourself on the labor market, taking something which is less that that would undermine your confidence. "i'll give you a quick example lol"
Employer: "May i know the reasons why you are declining our offer" etc
You: "Well i must say that your offer is tempting but in my great dismay i will be unable to accept it due to personal reasons regarding my conditions of work in your company, thank you very much for your time and my sincerest apology for declining the offer and your lost time"
The key word here is professionalism and not getting angry to the conditions like its a revolution or rebellion. Big companies often exchanges info about employees that have left or those who have decline, P.S this is an info that most people dont know and i might get fired for saying that! lol
Any way good luck to you.

OH congratulations on the job acceptance, but still. I think you are right not to talk that job. I feel they took advantage and are banking on you being weak an taking the job, so they can get away with all you stated. Just tell them, kindly. Their compensation standards are not a good fit for your skills and you have decided not to take the job.

You are welcome, I know how you feel. I would not want to work with a company like that either, knowing that is how they treat their employees. Is good you know all that before you get involved too.

i would just call them and tell thank you for wanting to hire you but you will have to pass, that its not what you thought it would be, sometime they might try to work with you on different things.
i tell people all the time, just never burn a bridge you might have to cross later in life, specaily jobs.

Hi,
This is a decisive option. Before accepting the offer you may think few consequences of the job profile. A high profiled company is good for the name and all. But, when it affects you individual, if it is not giving the required satisfaction, there is no point in it. The compensation is not upto the mark, the working hours is not as per the standard hours and they are not ready to compensate the differentiation for your night shift also.
If you are not have a track of night shift job, just deny it. Because, you will get health problems for a long time till, you get adjusted with that.
I am not discouraging, or not asking you to give up. But keep on hold, try a better one. In this regard, if you find not fair, you can call up the HR or the interviewed person saying that the offer parameters are not upto your expectations so that I am sorry, I am unable to proceed with your offer.
Best of luck,
Thank-s

Nope, I have not experienced this one. Well all I can say is that follow your heart. If you think that this work will just exploit you then I think it is better to turned it down. It is just up to you, if you are fine with their offers then you accept the job. :)

I wonder how they can get away with it if giving night allowance is a requirement of the law.
Have you received the employment contract? You can get the HR department to send an email to you.
Just say that you want to read the contract carefully and revert to them within 24 hours.
I think you can forward to the government office to ask whether the contract is even legal.

Actually I turned down one job offer before. I asked for a week to rethink about their offer, same issue as yours... salary. The company and the job is good but i don't think I can live with the salary they are offering to me. Salary is our main reason why we are working. We work because of livelihood... To earn a living.
What I did that time, I called the office two days before the due date I asked and talked to the HR of the company and told my real reason. I am sure she understood me and did not take it against me... Just be honest why you are declining the offer. Tell them that you are thankful about the job offer however the salary is way below your asking...

Tell them their compensation package was not what you expected after all you went through a lot of tests.
Tell them to check your skills set and compensate you accordingly.
"you just can't afford me"
hehehe
pad it or disguise but make sure they know that' what you mean. If you don't get the job at least they'll try and re assess just how much compensation they should offer in the future

i think it would be best if you go to the office and personally decline their offer. just be honest and state the real reasons; do so diplomatically. of course thank them for the offer and keep the possibility of future interaction open.
