A Father, Joe Stacy stated in divorce papers that his ex wife Stephanie Sloop was unstable. Yet a judge in Florida granted the mother joint custody. The Father was relucted to let him go and live with his ex for the summer and rightfully so. His child was beaten to death by the ex's new husband, Nathanael Sloop. Nearly two weeks after a judge had granted the divorce and joint custody the 4 year old child was found buried in a Utah canyon. I'm so sick of judges not doing the right thing for our kids. They are the innocent and then they are the ones who suffer at the end. I'm so sick of the abuse that poor little kids go through everyday. I hope both the ex-wife and her new husband get life in prison. My heart goes out to the poor Father, Joe Stacy of little Ethan. He must be sick with grief knowing he will never see his son again.

Hi, lelin1123. How could a mother not know that her son was being abused by this man??? He had to show some evident signs.. I am so sorry that this has happened. Women need to be truly careful of whom they invite into their love lives. It could be a dangerous killer that has become a part of their family. They both need life in prison. I have a four year old daughter, and I could not imagine anyone ever hurting her this way. I tell you, life is very scary and uncertain whom we may come into contact with in our lives. We women and men just have to be careful when it comes to meeting up with a new love.

She knew he was getting beaten and she didn't do anything about it. That is why they are both under arrest. I hope they throw the book at both of them.

Judges tend to be too soft. They are sympathetic to people who really don't deserve it. Somehow , they let their feelings get in the way of doing their jobs properly. This sympathy or general weakness affects their ability to apply logic and so results in these unfortunate events.
If the father has said that the mother is unstable , then go and have her checked out via psychiatrists,etc...Instead of disregarding the information and going straight ahead with joint custody. USE YOUR BRAIN! .
Perhaps this will wake up judges about the consequences of them choosing the incorrect decisions. Hopefully as a result of this atrocity, an event like this won't happen again...

This is not the first time this has happened. Judges have been doing this forever. If its not at the expense of a child its at the expense of a battered women. They don't use logic this is the problem. How many children and females have been killed because of the mistakes conducted in the court room. Its all to sickening.

Our courts are so concerned with keeping families together and they won't admit that some families should NOT be together. Even when faced with a criminal record and child abuse history they allow people to have custody of children.
Vote that judge out if you live in Florida. One of the reasons this keeps happening is that people don't vote for judges as they do other politicians. Look at your judges' records of decisions and fire the incompetent ones like the one you wrote about. Take control and save our children.

Exactly these judges need to be voted out of the court system. They are helping let these poor innocent children die. I just don't understand how stupid a judge can be.

I think the law needs to be reviewed and shaken up a bit as far too many judges believe that childrens place is with their mother and don't see beyond the surface info they are given. I appreciate it must be difficult to make a decision based on the info provided but they chose to put themselves in that position and so they need to be sure they look beyond traditional beliefs and really take into account all info that is going to affect a childs fate.
Surely the judge must have had doubts in the face of the fathers fear of letting his child stay with the mother and I believe I read that the little boy didn't want to go because he didn't know his mother well. That just makes this awful situation so much sadder. His dad will never get over this, how could you?
I hope that judge has countless sleepless nights over that decision, it won't bring that poor little boy back but it might help save future children..

This is really disgusting. I don't know why some people really can kill an innocent child that can't even protect himself. I really feel for the Father, he must be really devastated and really angry at the step father and the mom. I do hope that the judicial system would give justice to what happened with the Child.

I don't know how anyone can kill another person let alone an innocent child. It is devastating and horrible. My heart goes out to the Natural Father and what he must be going through at this time. I don't even know this man or his child and I can't stop crying over this.

Oh boy. That's terrible. How have people reduced themselves into something like this? So the unstable mother remarried another unstable human being and they go about beating a helpless little boy. What have become of society today? Why do we have so much violence even in homes and families? It is so sad to think that even the family where we are supposed to derive comfort and safety has gone down the drain and has become a dangerous place for kids. Too bad.

Yes you are correct. Its horrible when a child can't be safe in his own home. Its a crying shame and I'm so sick of hearing these horrible stories.

One day someone will listen, the problem is no one listens until it is to late
What gets me is that with the Ex having married again, they should check out the Person, the Home and things like that before allowing the Child into the environment, specially when one of the Parents claims that the other one is unstable
It is logical to check out the Circumstances before putting the Child in danger but I guess these Judges and that just do not think it is an issue until this happens

Exactly they just don't think about the child and the danger that they could be putting them into. I just don't understand the stupidity of the court system. I wonder if that judge is able to sleep after this. I know I would be a reck if I was the judge and allowed this to happen. However, if I was the judge I would have had to have everything and everyone checked out. What I think about is that poor little boy and what he saw and felt for the last time on this earth. That alone makes me cry and then I become so angry.

That's horrible. Isn't it depressing to live in a world where we have to hear about this type of stuff every day on the news. It's hard to imagine such a messed up situation.

I know its like every week another child or two have been killed or are missing. Its a total outrage in my opinion and not enough is being done to protect our innocent children.

I wonder how any of them are sleeping especially the mother. It takes a sorry woman not to be a good mother. I am 67 years old & my sons are grown but i would still fall out w/the best of them if i thought someone was mis-treating either one of them.

This is really horrifying and sad actually.
There goes a saying "As God could not be everywhere so he created mother".And after such a wonderful thing you get to hear something as horrifying as this. That is really terrible.
She was his biological mother and the incident clearly shows she did not have any feeling for her own child. The love and care with which a mother pampers her child is something which comes from within. And that lady lacks it she is seriously not stable.
I mean no human in his right mind can have the heart to actually harm a child. And killing a kid of 4 years, that is so disturbing.
I really feel people like these should be shown no sympathy at all.I really feel bad for the child's father.
May the child's soul rest in peace.

It is a horrible and should never had happened. If people were doing their job correctly this little boy would still be alive with his father.

I don't keep up with the news as much as I should but this is so sad and awful! It sounds like judges don't have the children's interests at heart any more! They must not care what happens to the child whatsoever. I feel sorry for the boy's natural father, too. I imagine he's going to miss the child as well as worry about him.

Stories about children getting beaten up by irresponsible persons sadden me and bring tears to my eyes. Why are these things happening? Why was custody granted still to the mother? Poor child. Poor father. Another loss for the future of America.

You are so right another loss and it just continues. Its sickening how many children have been killed over the years. There is no stopping it and it just makes me cry with every story that comes to light. I think about the fear that the child must have had in his or her last moments on earth. That just kills me.

I do believe in an eye for an eye but unfortunately the court system doesn't.
