Ah. I understand what you mean. You mean for example, if I was born as a thief because my family generation was also a thief, so therefore I was motivated as also a thief, so I have to be myself.
That is hard. If a person learn for example as a thief due to a family influences-- that means, a person would grow up as a thief because that's what the person learn from the very start even if those people who are not like him teach that being a "thief" is wrong, he won't listen because that's what he learn when he's still a child. The mind set that he would take is "I am me. I love being me. I am always be myself"......
So, for me is I think, there's nothing we can do if that person is predestine to be that way. There is nothing we really can do if the person accepts the facts that he is thief because he born from a family that is also a thief.
It depends. Some people steals because of various reasons even they knew that stealing is wrong.

You become a thief, and have a choice to do that or not. As a person, what are you like? What are you made of? I am sure you could tell the difference between right and wrong. The saying applies to your personality and character and only for positive constructive outcomes, no one wants you to be a thief and expect society to like it.
