Dark Chocolate: Healthy?

I came across a section of a magazine one day and it had a diet plan in it. Well under the snacks it listed 1 oz. dark chocolate. I've always known that dark chocolate had fewer calories in it but it being a part of a diet was even better =). The only thing with it is that you eat the right serving size. For example, 5 blocks of the hersheys dark chocolate is about 180 calories. So for the times you go on a diet and you have an urge just count your calories of the high-calorie foods or candy like dark chocolate you like and only eat the serving size, drink water, and stay focused.

I've heard that the biggest pro to dark chocolate is just it's antioxidants. There's more cocoa in it, and less "milk" and added ingredients - making it naturally better for you. Keyword being BETTER, not necessarily GOOD. I would say if you need to fulfill a chocolate craving, make it something possibly organic or at least dark (with less preservatives) rather than milk chocolate or like truffles or something. But I wouldn't look at it as a tool to lose weight.

Definitely not a tool to lose weight, but I was saying for my fellow chocolate lovers to maintain a healthy lifestyle without cutting out chocolate for good take a better approach and don't stuff your face with chocolate but eat a smaller amount just to satisfy your craving. Thanks for your response!

It does kind of depend on the brand of dark chocolate, though. There are better quality brands that do not add as much sugar and add no milk compared to Hershey. I prefer to stick to the more real seeming dark chocolate that at least does not add milk and those also tend to be less calories per serving. I also find just a little really good dark chocolate satisfies my chocolate cravings much easier than lesser quality chocolate.

I love dark chocolate, I buy the 89% dark chocolate and one bar lasts me a long time because I only eat 1 square at a time and I don't have one every night. And whan I found out it is healthy for me in moderation, I thought that was really cool.

Well medically they say dark chocolates are good anti oxidant and good for health. I feel black chocolates sometimes taste bitter due to more cocoa..i like milk chocolates.
