He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe. Proverbs 28:26 (New International Version). Does it mean the one who distrusts himself is wise?

Although that verse is in the old testament part of the bible, I believe that it is prophetic. It actually speaks of Jesus. I'll explain why I say that. We know that according to the book of John 1:1,14 ("In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us..." ) that Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. Then 1 Corinthians 1:30 ("But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom...") lets us know that Jesus is made unto us (or "for us") wisdom. So going back to Proverb 28:26, I interpret it as "He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in [or with, or according to] God's Word [which is Christ] is kept safe" When Jesus ascended, he told us that He would pray the father to give us another Comforter who would be with us always. He was referring to the Holy Spirit. And when you receive the Holy Spirit, He is the One that guides you on where you should go... so you don't trust in yourself but in Him.

amorlife you are right. I see many people ask, "How Jesus' blood save us from sins?" When Jesus abides in us as 'Holy Spirit', it guides our conscience. It prevents us from committing sin. Christianity is not about living according to the commandments, following Jesus' teaching or emulating him to be Christlike but just adoring Him and worshiping Him. Believing that He is the Son of God. This alone is sufficient to make one a true Christian.

What I am getting out of it is to not be conceited. Try not to think you know everything. Be humble. Wisdom is with the Holy Spirit, the Bible.

May be the one who begins to over trust himself, distrust God.

Obviously it is targeted at those who have not acquired enough knowledge and yet have trust in themselves. Walking in wisdom means is about the one who has acquired knowledge. That is how I look at it.

To me it means to trust in God's word, and "lean not unto your own understanding." Trust that God has a plan for you and that He will take care of you...it doesn't mean to distrust yourself, but to listen for what God wants you to do....the man who only listens to himself is a fool...

i think trusting yourself and your abilities too much or if a person thinks highly of himself without even thinking that without God, we are just nothing, i guess those are the fool ones.
