Smacking Children Should It Be Allowed

I live in the UK and smacking children is an absolute no-no. However are there occasions were it is acceptable to do so for example if your child may be in danger. Perhaps tryng to poke fingers into an electric socket. I appreciate that good communication is the key however i believe that there are instances when there is just no time to talk and a short sharp smack will be more effective. What does everyone else think?

IT shouldn't be allowed unless you really can't get through to the child and they continuously defy you.
