I love old horror films like the 1930s Dracula and Frankenstein films, the Universal Horrors and the Hammer Horror films too. I don't like gore and too much violence. I love Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Peter Cushing and that kind of old style star. Has anyone got any good films like that you would recommend?

Well, I don't think Frankenstein is a horror film to me, by today's standards. It is more likely to be a science fiction. Have you ever watched The Shining? It is just a quintessential film.

I haven't seen The Shining or Halloween, I think they are too frightening and too much is shown, whereas I prefer things to be suggested rather than overt. I like a good script and good acting, not just all effects. I just watched Pan's Labyrinth and enjoyed that, although some bits set in 1944 Spain are brutally violent.

Some of the best films are the old ones. This is especially true of horror films. They just don't make them like they used to. Now everything is blood and gore. That isn't what true horror is all about.

Oh yes, I completely agree! I watched the 2010 version of The Wolfman at the cinema and it was all blood, guts and gore. I much prefer the old 1930s version of The Wolf Man which had worse special effects, but created the mood perfectly - the suspense, the build up of tension...

Oh yes, I think I have seen that one. I like the old classics that are more suspense than gore.
