3G is faster than 2G. A phone that only has a capability to connect to a 2G network won't be able to browse the internet as fast as a 3G phone does. On a 2G phone, you cannot browse the internet while making/receiving a phone call. In other words, it limits multi-tasking on the phone. 2G phones are suitable for people who only use their phones to make/receive phone calls and send/receive SMS. For MMS, it's faster to send/receive picture messages on a 3G handset.
One other important thing to note though, a 3G handset can still connect to 2G. 3G only appears on the phone's network if that is available on a specific area. In some locations especially rural areas, the connection might drop from 3G to 2G.

Hello there! Well, if you are surfing the internet using your phone, 3G signal helps you connect faster. Videocall is another purpose of 3G support but I guess, it only works for phones with front camera such as Nokia 3120 classic. You can change your network settings by going to menu, settings, then network. You choose among GSM or 2G, UMTS or 3G, and dual mode. Battery life depends on what you choose among the three options. When you are using your phone's browser in UMTS mode, 3G signal is forced to connect so it will last only for around two hours of continuous use. Just switch it to GSM mode when you are not using the browser or in standby mode, this will help prolong battery life. Have a nice day!

Basically 3G gives feature like video calling and high speed internet. They're many times expensive then 2G. If you're willing to pay the fee then you can do everything you do basically in computer like playing online games, watching videos on youtube and so much!
