There was a time when I had at least 5 auctions going on ebay and I spent a lot of money trying to get things sold. Finally, I got tired of selling items worth $20 for $3! I was paying more than I was making. I enjoyed the creative part of making nice looking auction pages but in the end it wasn't worth it to me. They kept raising the price of everything and it was getting crazy!
Are you an ebay seller? How do you make out....do you get what the item is worth or have to take a big loss?

You are so right. I think ebay has lost a lot of sellers for this reason.

You will probably make out better having a yard sale. At least there's no overhead and fees.

I used to sell on Ebay, mainly buy now for thesame reasons stated. If I am going to list anything I will either put it at a buy it now or list when they are doing a fee listing weekend as this saves. I have sold things that would have just been thrownout by someone else before now and got $21 for a pair of roller skates so sometimes it is worth placing items on. I tried using a drop shiping company at one time and to make a go of it as a business but I found I had no control over delivery etc so stopped that also although the items I did sell I made imediate profit from Elie :D

I always wanted to try drop shipping but never did. I also didn't like the idea of having no control.

Ah, forget drop shipping. Too many horror stories out there about drop shippers. You'll get tons of negative feedback from your costumers if your dropship company is run out of the items.

im a seller in ebay and i havent spend a penny in putting my item in auction, i can change the template of my ebay auction page without paying anything and i dont need to put up my own store and pay monthly as i can also sell my item without the needs of having ebay store. i made a lot of sell from ebay from my used clothes and gadgets including my used laptop to my old mobile and dressers and the buyer will burden the shipping expenses. sometimes it took one to three months before all my item sold out so you just have to be patience, theres also an automatic relisting where theres no need for you to relisted the item every week once they expired. i guess theres too many things that you need to know about ebay first before you go into selling as you said you loss than gain, i didnt see any reason why i loss there as theres no need for you to spend a penny selling in ebay.

Yes I sell on ebay, but it's just have been for a few days. I listed about 6 items, and no one buys it yet . Maybe because my feedback score is still too low, so the buyers don't trust me yet. I am new, but I am serious in starting this business and I have no intention on cheating the buyers LOL. I sell ethnic fashion clutch bags from my country but I haven't sell even one item. Oh, first sale is always hard . If my item sell, yes, I will get some profits, but not much. But it's still better than if you have to make your own online store and wait for the traffic...

3 years ago I used to sell on ebay all the time but then I had my son and I just didnt feel like taking the time to do it. I used to do really good before they raised the seller fees so much. I used to be able to find things really cheap at the store and resell them for a lot. But the listing fees are so high now that I dont even bother trying to make money like that. I only sell the things that I dont care how much I get for them. Stuff that I just want to get rid of and dont feel like putting in the yard sale. I have so much stuff to sell in the yard sale that its just easier to list stuff online then put out so much stuff out in the yard for sale and have to haul it back in at the end of the night. I really dont sell much for myself I dont have much to list but my ex has been having me sell things for him though so I've been selling a lot of his video games and strategy guides and giving him the money. Its a hassle but he has a lot of fines to pay off so I want to help him out so he will be able to stabilize and be a good dad to his children. I've sold things for $30 and by the time you pay for the bubble wrap envelope, pay for the shipping with delivery confirmation, pay the insertion and final value fees that ebay charges, and pay the paypal fees he winds up only making about $20. Thats a pretty big difference. Ebay tries to say they do what the sellers want by lowering the insertion fees but then they jack up the final value fees and it winds up costing more in the end anyway. They are pushing sellers away so they really should stop. I probably would have continued to sell on ebay more 3 years ago if they hadent jacked the final value fees up so much. I wrote a complaint about it way back then.

Hi Ctry,
Yes, I sell on Ebay and have been for years. Do I make much profit? Sometimes, but not all the time. I'm a big fan of antique postcards, and some of the prices are unbelievable, upwards to hundreds of dollars. I find them unique and completely beautiful. They sure aren't what you find today in the way of postcards. The colors and drawings and very pretty, and I love Victorian type stuff.
I will buy the antique postcards usually in a "lot" which means a whole bunch, then re-sell them. One card I had I was going to throw out, thinking it was worthless, and it wasn't even that pretty. Had some smudging on it (but you expect items that are 100 years old not to be perfect), but this one just didn't appeal to me in the least. Well, I decided just to try it, just once, to see what happens and started the bidding at $.99. It sold for $28.00, so now I don't throw nothing out, haha. I was shocked! Another one I had which I felt the same way about and almost threw out, sold for $13.00. Both of these cards I'm talking about I paid $.37 for, so it was a great profit. It all depends on what you're selling and who collects it, or really just wants it bad enough. Take care!

My ebay experience was similar to yours - maybe not as extreme. The fees drove me out of ebay; that and the reduced profit with each extra cd and dvd I sold. I've ended up with a huge inventory of unsold items. There were some wins but was not worthwhile use of my time in the end.

I have sold a few things on ebay but the most successful thing i made money off of was a old michael jackson E.T record which i got for free and sold for $100 and the only cost i had to pay was shipping and the listing fee's
