This is surprising. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Yahoo-buys-freelance-news-apf-1845045227.html?x=0 This probably why there are so many changes going on at AC. I expect to see more changes coming in the future.

Well, this is interesting. I wonder what it will mean for the writers. I just went to AC and it's on the home page. This can be a good thing or a really bad one.

At the very least, all AC writers are in limbo now. Even though, it is still business as usual right now.

Hi Canellita, the last sentence is the troubling part: "Yahoo plans to close Associated Content's Web site after it completes the acquisition in the third quarter." One of the middle paragraphs is also very troubling: "Yahoo plans to sprinkle Associated Content's contributions throughout its news, sports, finance and entertainment sections. Yahoo will continue to publish stories that it gets from newspapers, its own editorial staff and outlets that include The Associated Press." Associated Content contains many more contents than that. I think those creative writings will not get featured elsewhere. I think it is really stupid of Yahoo to close down the website just after acquisition. After all, Associated Content is a recognized brand.

From what I read they also said they wanted to include more local content written by real people to enhance what they already offer.

Good grief.. I think I need sell myself to companies saying "for a price I will join a group and because I am there, the company will close or get sold or in some other way go down the tubes and your company will benefit with one less competitor". Seems every time I find a money earning site and work it and it starts generating me money...it goes to the dumps. Sorry to hear this

I saw this on the site earlier tonight. I think it will be beneficial in the sense of bringing more readers and page views. What the implication will be for programs like the Featured Writer, Calls for Content, and upfront payments is a lot less clear, however. I think that it's unlikely that they will do a major overhaul at first, but most people who buy a company usually end up making changes. Whether those changes benefit the writers is another matter. I would say to anyone who writes for the site to not have all your writing eggs in one basket. I think most people who write for Associated Content probably write for other sites as well.

It is the last sentence that is troubling. AC was one of those sites were beginners could easily get published. There are those who do write exclusively for AC and this move is will hurt them the most. Not everyone has extra eggs in their basket. What will hurt writers the most is if AC goes the route of Seed and becomes a competitive writing site.

Earning online is so minimal that anyone who does not have other eggs in their basket is unrealistic. There are so many ways to earn from writing and not just online.

Yes, I heard about this. I guess we just wait to see what the changes will bring. Hope it's all good.

I was a little nervous when I saw that yahoo was buying this site. I thought that they might change it drastically and I was nervous because this is the site that makes me the most money. However after they bought it not much has changed. I have to say that I still love the site. Yahoo has changed the layout of the website but thats about it.
