Are there any great american bands left?

Am I the only one that misses the days of Hendrix and Zeppelin? Now it seems that everything is sung by some whiny emo punk want-to-be, or really bad metal, or it all just sounds the same. Thoughts?

You've got to be open to new rock, and I'm not talking screamo or emo crud that is only sweet sounding to 14 year old girls. Listen to Metric (a combination of two Canadians and two Americans), and they've got an awesome sound and some great lyrics. Female vocalist who knows what rock music is. The White Stripes (and Jack White solo) are also pretty good new rock, same with System of a Down who are no longer together but had a VERY interesting sound and some wacky lyrics but are good for head banging.

Great to hear. They played at my University in September of last year and it was amazing. I was front row (pun intended), and I literally could reach out and touch Emily Haines. I got some great HD video of the concert, put it on my computer and got it ready to upload to the web, then CRASH. A friend knocked over my computer and the hard drive broke, it was beyond repair and I had already deleted the concert footage from my camera. FML.
