I kinda feel so, as they are now extensively adapting movies based on novels and comic books. The last most genuine movie that I saw with an original concept was Blood diamond.
What say you???

Well I do sort of agree because every other movie being made at the moment seems to be either a sequel, an adaptation, a remake, a re-boot or what every fancy name they come up with to disguise that the movie won’t be original. As such there are very few movies being made which truly excite me which are original stories.
But then this has been going on a lot longer than many realise. If you go back to the 40s and 50s it was not unusual for a movie to be made which was a remake of something from the 30’s or adapted from a novel. Go to the 80’s and many notable movies were in fact remakes or sequels.
I put this down as a recurring trend which you only really notice when you start to pay attention to the sort of movies hitting the big screen.
I don’t think the mass cinema going public care much for originality and are happy to sit back and watch the same sort of things because they know what they like and the like what they know. As such the studios will keep on churning out the same sort of films because they know they will make money and that is what matters to them.

lol, thankyou.
I think the major thing is that we sometimes forget that making movies is a business and the studios tend to green light the movies they know will make a profit and that boils down to delivering what the current trends are, set by the mass cinema going public. This means more super hero movies, comic book adaptations and special effects driven movies than I care to think about.
If you look at what movies are being lined up for the next couple of years there is a whole plethora of comic book characters. It's for me quite depressing.
