Gifts for the Teacher

Well, the end of the school year is rapidly approaching. When I was little we would always get a gift for the teacher at the end of the year and I would like to do this with my daughter as well.
That said, I have absolutely no clue of what we should get for her teacher, Ms. Harris. I haven't had the opportunity to get to know her teacher really well this year because there wasn't a lot of interaction between the two of us like there was last year when Kathryn was in kindergarten.
So, I would love to have some great suggestions of what we should give to her teacher as a thank you for the time that she has spent with my daughter and for helping her to continue to excel.

Not an apple, and Girls love Chocolate.
It is always so hard to decide what to get for someone you hardly know. I can feel your pain. Being an opportunist, when gift giving times come, I give out gift certificates or product from Vitamark. Unless I know this would offend the person, if that is the case, I choose very well.
All that said, girls love chocolate, and tupperware containers are great for holding home made chocolate snacks.
Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Perfect way to do it, I would suggest a gift certificate that included extra party bonuses, were I in your position.

I was thinking about giving her a gift certificate for some Tupperware because she has expressed an interest several times but we've never been able to connect as far as her having a party.

Spectacular idea. I will definitely be using this. Thank you so much for your addition to my thought.

I would think that it should be just a general gift like candy or something that smells good. Does not have to be expensive and Kathryn could write on the card to personalize it for her teacher. I know that whatever you choose will be appreciated. My daughter collected "quotes" from her class and put them in a book saying who said what. Some of them are hilarious and together with photos of 'her'children it is a great memory for her to have.

That is a phenomenally terrific idea as well.

This would be the perfect gift. However, for Christmas every year I try to do an altered paint can candy bucket for the teacher. I will make a wrap for the can with pictures that I've taken through the school year to that point and then I will fill it with candy.

I'm thinking that something that would pamper her would be a great thing because not only has she been a wonderful teacher for Kathryn (who can be quite trying at times), she has also gone through this school year pregnant with her first child, she is due in the next couple of weeks and it would be great for her to be able to pamper herself in some way just after her son is born.

I definitely want Kathryn to make a card for her because she has come very far this year in her reading and writing abilities and I would like to do something somewhat material as well.

That is a really good idea. I will have to get to the store this weekend and see if there are any that speak to me.

That would be neat for the kids to all get together and give the teacher roses. In my opinion, this teacher has been phenomonal.

What I had hoped to be able to do for her this year was a scrapbook of the class from this year. However, because I was babysitting during much of the school year I wasn't able to get into the classroom as often as I would have liked to have done. So, I'm going to have to settle with something store bought this time.

In middle school when the school year ended, I gave all my teachers a pin that was shaped like a textbook. They all loved it. My best friend at the time gave her favorite teacher a book they he enjoyed reading. If your daughter knows her teacher really well then it should be something personalized like her favorite book or her favorite type of flower but many items like things that symbolize school would be a good gift to any teacher.

I hope that we will be able to come up with something that is very personal to her teacher because I really think that the teacher this year has been wonderful for Kathryn. She has come a long way and I know that a lot of it is due to the teacher that she has had.

Either a gift card to a coffee shop, like Dunkin Donuts or Tim Horton's.. a gift card to a book shop so she can pick out a book for the class... or I would go to the dollar store and get some candy and a mug and put the candy in the mug.

I love the idea of giving gift cards to the teacher. It would have to be something that would be for herself instead of for her classroom because I want to thank her personally not so much the students of the future.

I think next year we are going to try to think ahead so Kathryn and I will be able to work together on what to give to her teacher.

My cousin is a teacher and she says although she appreciates getting gifts from her students, she doesn't need another knick knack thing for her small place. She's also on a special diet and just gives away most of the food items she gets. And she's allergic to most perfumed soaps and lotions - so she gives those away too. Gift cards are always nice - that way they can buy whatever it is they truly need or want - especially if you don't know what the teacher's tastes are. A bookstore would probably be very appropriate. But if a gift card isn't warm enough, I think I would have my daughter make a handmade card so she can show her appreciation to the teacher she's had all year . . . and then get a gift that a teacher can always use that you can't go wrong with . . . like a cool pen set or fun notepads. Maybe Kathryn could tell you if she knows what the teacher likes? I remember one of my teachers loved anything that had to do with Japanese culture, so we got her this Japanese snack bowl set.

If I ask Kathryn about what her teacher likes, she only tells me that she likes her baby. She's expecting a son in the next couple of weeks.

Hello i was in teaching for over four decades,we have a 'Teachers day' celebration, our students give us gifts that varies from a simple card to a cosly watch.. well one should give a gift to some body that he/she will use for a long period of time.. i would suggest you to give a hand knitted sweater or some thing similar..
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always.
Cheers.

I tend to agree with you that we should give things that will last for a long period of time. It doesn't make any sense at all to me to spend our own hard earned money on junk.

If I were to decide, I would give my teacher a Chicken Soup for the Soul Book. There are a lot of titles to choose from, just choose the most appropriate. The reason behind this is because in a book, you learn a lot of new ideas. And a book is similar to a teacher because you can learn from both of them.

That is a wonderful suggestion, I will have to get a few of them to give out to teachers during the next school year. I remember when they first came out, I collected many of the older editions of them because they definitely had an uncanny way of making me feel better when I was having a rough day or time in my life.

I don't think it matters at all which version you read, they all bring warmth to the hearts of everyone that reads them. I've read the ones even for the Cancer Survivor's Soul and the Veteran's Soul as well and while I am neither of these things, I still get something out of them.

I had a copy, however it's so ironic. My grandma gave me a chicken soup for the kids soul. I am 18 at that time. However, when I read it, the story was so nice. I did not mind if it was for the kids because I had fun reading it. Books like these should be available to everyone because it can really help you in your endeavors.

What I give my kids teachers are gift card for local stores. You can do a 5 dollar starbucks card and that will buy them any drink on the menu you could also give them a walmart card or a gift card to a craft store as teachers spend lots of their own money to supplement their class room budgets. If I was a teacher I would be thrilled with a small gift card to any where it shows that they are appreciated.

I think that gift cards are a great thing to give to teachers because that way they are able to choose what would be of the most use to them personally. Teachers are all very unique and it is definitely true that one size doesn't fit all.

Last year, I had a student who gave me a present after the end of the school year and I was really touched because I wasnt expecting him to buy me one. I think teachers wont mind about what the student is gonna get them, as they said, its the thought that counts.

I agree with you that it is the thought that counts. However, I want whatever our thought is to be a thoughtful thought.

What about a made to order figurine which symbolizes her character or the most noble profession of being a teacher? IT could look like a woman or a teacher in her uniform with books on arms, a bag on her shoulder. Quite expensive though for you have to make the design for it. Or maybe there are something like this already out there

If I had the money to be able to do something like that, it would be something that I would love to have done for both her and Kathryn's kindergarten teacher that she had last year.
