i have found one famous designer here in canada offers stuff that is poor quality yet at outragious prices. more than once i have bought a product from them only to have it fall apart.
does paying high prices for designer goods mean that the quality is better?

Prices don't reflect our taste buds nor does it mean the product will be any good. I think some companies try to use this to make us believe it does but generally it doesn't. I was sickened to hear what goes into hotdogs, the fact that no meat goes in explains why they're so cheap.
This is one example of higher prices being better but generally it doesn't mean much.

That is a serious problem that I noticed when I stayed in Canada. $25 for a pair of barely there sandels and one was already falling about way back in the 80s. No wonder so many go to stores over here. Trust me, all the $ spent in Plattsburgh, NY, we know where Canada is.

One would hope the materials would be of better quality and the process to make the item more time consuming than something you'd find at a discount retailer. I'd be pretty mad about that item being made so poorly when you could of very well gotten something cheaper and outlasted the item you bought.
And many brand items are not made by the actual designers company or subcontractor. They license their name, their label, their image to another company to use and they then share the profits and do less work. I know of some equipment I had a problem with contacted the company and they said "we don't make those anymore, they are licensed out to XYZ company contact them" WTH? So then I contacted that company and go no response for their defective product.

I think that if you are buying a designer item, pick an item that you will use for a long time and is worth the design and material.for me,I will buy a white and black designer top and shoes that I can use for a long time.I don't want to buy something that will last in one season only.I would spend my money on those items that will never go out of style and can be worn for a long time.

When I used to work and live in Asia, designer named-brands were pretty big. This considering that you could get any non-designer brands at pretty cheap prices. So back then, designer meant good quality. Here in north america, it doesn't necessary mean the same. You can still get no-name brands here that is of good quality.
It is unfortunate that some brands use their names to ply sub-standard products. The market would be the ultimate test. I'm sure that if it continues to be that way, sooner or later, there wouldn't be a lot of people buying and paying those prices.

Hi,
I think that as a consumer you really have to do some research on the products you buy.
Many products come off the same assembly line as high end brands, with just minor changes to not resemble the top end brands. In the end they slap on a top brand sticker and there you go.
Be wise. When you buy a top end brand you are also paying for all the fat cat marketing behind it. Be frugal.
Regards.

I don't think so. I mean in some cases, a designer name does equal good quality. But I've definitely found products- food, clothes, shoes, that were just as good as a designer brand, but without the outrageous prices. I guess sometimes people just want to project a certain image, and the brand names afford them that. But I'm like you. One bad experience like that, and I'm disgusted.

I find this to be very true especially with Bras and Panties but a few desiner dresses I have had just could not hold up to reagular wear and tear when I was buying desiner stuff and it just falls apart after like 3-4 washes , so now I buy all my stuff at Target and when it falls apart after 12-15 washes I think "well at least I got some use out of it for just $14.99"

Reminds me of something that happened back in the 80's. I went shopping with a friend and we saw this dress that was over $100, which was hugely expensive for us back then. Her dad was a tailor and she was a pretty good seamstress herself, and she took a look inside the dress to see how it was made. There were a lot of sloppy seams and loose threads and so on. We found other things much cheaper that were better made.

[i]Quality is the most important for me.The product may or may not have a brand name, that doesn't really matters.I don't really care about brand, to be honest. I choose clothes based on the material, the style and comfort. That's all that matter to me. But unfortunately, clothes that meet all the requirements are the branded ones, most of the times. If they meet my standard of price that I can pay, I don't mind paying some extra bucks for it.Its better if I can have them with cheaper price, then it's a good deal! I don't have favorite brands, I buy clothes that I like, whatever the brands are. I usually buy clothes at the malls, where the prices are fixed..Bargaining is the another stuff that I hate the most.

I dont think I need to buy something expensive or branded just to know its of a good quality. I dont like buying branded clothes ever since I had a bad experience buying one a few years ago and to my disappointment that the color of the fabric faded. Since then, I never bought anything branded anymore cause I dont trust names.
