digital quality tv

I have a rather old lcd tv(bought it in 2007). I have analogic cable tv and it doesn't have a high quality image. Anyway, when i want to watch a dvd, the quality is much better than the analogic tv. My question is: if i get digital cable tv, will the quality be as good as the dvd one? or, shorter to say: does the digital cable tv have the same quality with dvd?
