I Don't Know How to Quiet my Dog

Chloe - This is Chloe when she was a few months old. My mom made her something to wear and she just looked so cute and cuddly. My mom used to put diaper on Chloe because she loves to pee everywhere in the house. My mom nearly had an accident when she stepped on Chloe's pee. So she tried hard to put diaper on the dog everyday. Chloe, being very stubborn goes under the furniture and when she come out, she doesn't have her diaper on anymore.

My dog, Chloe is a Japanese Spitz. My brother bought her from his officemate. Chloe was such a cute dog. When she was very little, she looked so fragile, meek and sweet. She doesn't used to bark. In fact whenever some friends come to our house, she gets scared so she hides wherever she can. She also trembles when somebody hold her high. When as she was growing up, she became a pain in the butt! She barks at every person who comes to our house. I don't know if she's jealous or what. She barks when someone knocks at the door. She barks when she phone rings or when she hears people talking outside the house. Chloe doesn't simply bark. She barks very loudly that she wakes me up in the morning. Her barks reverberates to the whole house and it is so embarrassing to the visitor. We cannot quiet her - nobody in the house can. We spank her but after a few seconds she goes back to her barking. I don't know what to do with her. She's cute when she's behave but as soon as she barks her bark - she gives me headache! Any help please?

My dog will bark when someone comes in, when the door bell rings or if a phone rings also. But we simply give her the command "that will do" and she stops. To get Chole to this point may take some training. When someone enters your home, have a box of Chloe's favorite treats near. You will need to call her into another room and give the command, then give her the treat. The diversion from what she is barking at should be enough to make her stop barking. If this does not work you will have to isolate her from your guest. Make it so that she can not see them, otherwise she is likely to continue to bark at them.

Oh she does bark at the visitor all the time that she pisses me off. The treat thing is a good idea. I'll try to do that next time. Do you believe that some dogs are slow learner? Coz I think Chloe is. Or maybe I just didn't spend time training her. Sometimes I take her outside the house but she doesn't stop barking coz she knows somebody - a visitor is inside the house. We don't feed her with any dog food. She eats what we eat. Do you think the food that she eats have an effect to her behavior? Thank you for spending time answering my post.

Yes, over spoiling your dog may have something to do with her behavior. She is trying to set her place in the order of dominance. And she sees visitors as a potential threat to her place in your family "society". Spend more time training her and teaching her that she is a pet. She should not be allowed to have table food until the family has finished eating and gotten up from the table. She should always be fed from her bowl on the floor. And get some dog kibbles in her mix, otherwise you are likely to have tooth or oral health issues with her in the future.

Tuwedy probably picked up the intestinal worms from outside or being bitten by either a mosquito or a fly. If you keep dog food in a cool dry place it should last and stay fresh without any problems. Since Chloe is a small dog, get the smallest bag possible and purchase the premium line. Also using a liquid dewormer for her once or twice a year is not a bad idea, since you know the presence of intestinal parasites are present. Usually the liquid stuff smells like bananas and dogs lap it up with no problem.

Training is one of the best thing to let your dogs be obedient. But socializing or exposing your dog with other person is also one thing that helps your dog stop barking. Are your dog is on a cage/chain? If possible don't tie or lock the dog on a cage. Have you tried walking out with your dog? Please so, let the dog explore a little... Hope this can help...

Chloe has a chain but we let her run around the house from time to time. But I haven't tried walking her out the compound. Thanks for the advice - it seems sensible =).

hey i know you are sick and tired of your dog barking 24/7.You know what you can try sprinkling some water on her.I have seen that are just too scared of water. If you will shower her with water then you won't see her barking but you will see her siting at some corner quite and calm or may be scared but it will do the job of making it quite.

Hi KC..I know how you feel, believe me. I have two dogs that have the "barking disease" lol, and when one barks, the other chimes in, even if he dosen't know why he is barking. They do the same as yours, people outside talking, doorbell, loud cars or truck passing, pretty much anything. I went to this site and got some good info so am passing it on to you..I'm even thinking about a trainer if things don't improve!! My neighbors all hate me!!! Good luck! http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/how-to-stop-your-dog-from-barking.html

Hi KC. I also have a Jap Spitz with me for almost two years now. I did not train her of any trick that other doggie got from their owner, but then, she seldom bark at people passing by nor our visitors coming in. Instead of barking, she will wiggle her tail and try to be friendly with my visitors. She only barks at dogs passing by with their bosses. The only thing that reminds her every time a friend comes in or people passing by is 'a pat on her head'. I use to do that until now and perhaps she believe that that means 'it's ok'.

Aaaaawww your dog is cute! I wish my Chloe is like that. But you see, she's not very expose to people, which I think is not very good. I should expose her more to people, walk her out of the house and maybe some of the tricks suggested here will work. She is barking at the moment by the way. I tried sprinkling water on her face and still didn't work hahaha!

dear k, when the dog begins barking, scold her with a firm "Quiet" "Enough" "Quit it". when he again barks, use a spray bottle filled with water also use a displeased tone and repeating your chosen command. the tone of your voice is very important. it has to be assertive and strong. your dog will keep doing at first so dont give up. stay calm and repeat your negative-toned "enough". never hit the dog unless it is part of a struggle to break up a fight with another animal or a person. if she stops barking, have her perform a previously learned command (i.e., sit), then praise her but not as soon as barking stops because she may believe you're praising the bad behavior. a little pat on the head will be very welcome. try it. good luck. ann

Hi K!. Every dog tend to bark to stranger, he is try to protect you. My dog tend to do that too. I usually just come and tell him every thing ok, go back to play. training your dog is important if you can not your self. Its sound silly but talk to your dog usually give a result.

Hahahahaha that's a good side of it. Although sometimes I think Chloe barks because my attention is with another being and not on her. Is your dog male or female? Maybe male dogs are different?

You have the cutest little dog! But it hurts me to hear that you feel the need to spank your dog. I too have a little dog who likes to bark and I want to tell you how to help the dog stop barking...but it will take a lot of work and time to do this. Training your dog to stop barking at every little thing will take weeks to do but it will be worth it in the end. 1st you must "Interupt" Chloe everytime she barks, you could use a dog treat, favorite toy or clap your hands loudly, once she stops barking praise her and tell her she's a good dog. Only give her praise if she stops barking. I had to stop putting food in the dog dish and keep treats in my pocket for a week to make sure my dog was always a little hungry and motivated to be good dog in order to get food. the trick is to get her attention away from whatever she is barking at. soon she will learn to stop barking. I am a big fan of the hit TV show "The dog Whisperer" on the national geographic channel, you should try watching on "you tube" Please stop spanking your dog, this just makes your family pet fearful and upset. Don't lose your temper, dogs are a lot of work, but well worth the effort. GOOD LUCK!

I don't want to be spanking Chloe but she's just a b*tch sometimes and she scares my visitors. Like sleepylittlerose's suggestios, treats might work with Chloe as I haven't tried this yet. I'm gonna watch the dog whisperer - thank you for the suggestion. Yeah, chloe is a cute dog and I feel guilty every time I spank her but she pisses me off and I don't know how to handle her when she's like that.

I think you have to spend more time with her. I do not know how old she is. If she is quite young, she might change her habits in course of time. Her problem seems to be undue fear. Your presence and and your love for her may bring her peace and courage. Talk to her in a mild voice. She wont understand it,sure but she would understand that you care for her and that will help her retain her lost peace. I am not an expert. But I love dogs a lot and I have never encountered serious problems in handling them.

I will either pour it little water on its body so that it will start to dry itself by liking it out. So that time will be quiet. Or you give it a lot of bones to eat so that by focusing on the bones, it will not bother to bark. You can also use the mouth peg for dogs to close its mouth for that time. You can also begin to train in a way that it will know that you are displeased with it at that time.

now, this is just a joke: get a cat. she will not bark anymore as she will be hunting... serious: get someone to instruct her, a professional. it is better for someone who knows all about dogs to help you. it is the only way. my dogs barks as well and we can not do anything. but the bark in normal limits.so, it's ok for us. good luck, anyway...
