Why is it considered politically incorrect to support your country?

Come on England!! - It's funny how our flag offends you but our benefits don't!!!

Next month the biggest football competition in the world - the Fifa World Cup will start. In England, people who are not usually known for their patriotism will be flying the St Georges flag with gusto ( well if they are allowed!!) Unfortunately this is fast becoming classed as being politically incorrect!!! The flying of the English flag & the wearing of the England shirt have now become banned in some pubs & clubs during the competition to avoid upsetting people of other cultures & religions. Students at Warwick University have been banned from flying the flag of St George in the run-up to the World Cup.Thousands of students have been told that no flags are to be displayed at windows before or after the tournament. Yesterday Metropolitan Police Service have recommended T-shirts and banners that bare the flags of the countries, or the symbols on the materials, should be banned from being worn in pubs during the South Africa 2010 World Cup. The advice comes in a letter from the Metropolitan Police to pubs in Croydon, South London. Among World Cup guidance, it suggests "dress code restrictions - eg no football shirts". There has also been allegations that Tower Hamlets in London are banning the flying of English Flags during the World Cup Football competition. Is this just red-top journalism and Facebook urban myth? What do you think?

omg so you are wondering if this is true? I got so mad reading this. Here in the US we had this problem on Cinco De Mayo. It was so stupid. Students sent home for wearing an American flag. That is the most insane thing I have ever heard. I do not know if your story is true, this is the first I have heard of it. We will have to wait to hear from our UK friends.

It has been quoted in the press, but we are unsure as to whether or not they are rumours. Although I wouldn't be surprised,!!
