Isn't there something we can do about texting? Oprah tried and I am sure she got alot of people to stop texting and talking on the phone while driving but not nearly enough obviously. I just read a discussion about a horrible accident caused by a driver who was texting. I think there should be a buzzer that goes off in these new fangled cars (that do everything else) when someone enters the car with a cell phone enabled to do texting and talk. Then you have a choice to either turn it off or go forward. I think the laws would be able to be upped if this were the case because then it is like premeditated in a way. What do you think?

The ear piece would definitely be the smart way to go. But it just seems that people don't think and don't care. Some very serious laws need to be set down IN EVERY STATE.

It is negligent to try to text and drive at the same time. There are enough accidents without this nuisance. It's crazy to try to type and drive. If it didn't involve your hands and taking your eyes off the road that would be a different story altogether.

well, i think texting itself isn't a bad habit. it's a way of communicating with other people. what's bad is when people do it at times that aren't good. like when you say, when driving. texting during times that you're supposed to be doing something else is definitely bad. but texting itself, it's not bad, it depends on the person who's using it just like anything else.

Yes, habits are hard to break. I think the buzzer is a good idea. Ofcourse people can probably turn that off.

You cant control everyones life like that. A Person has to learn how to make there own decisions. If you keep making it for them. We teach our kids that they have a choice and that's what the adults need to learn as well.

I think that is where laws come in. Putting control where there needs to be some.

Gone are the days of advising something to any one.
The persons who live in between the four walls of a house itself do not feel like listening or following and advice from an elderly and experienced person then who an outsider can follow.
Everyone3 has their own style of thinking. I have taken tons of photographs people talking on a mobile while driving and not only that they carry 5 members of a family on a two wheeler and talk on a mobile. How odd it is.
Better be a judge of these happenings and enjoy.
U cannot alone do anything.

But, on the other hand, today is the day of high tech civilization and open communication. Laws are made so people can live harmoniously in a community. And, ya, not kill eachother! Something needs to be done in each and every state.

This is the negative side of this new technology perhaps. I think before the cellphone age this was not a threat but now that it has arrived we need to really control the use of this while we are driving. For now, there is nothing we can do but self discipline is what we need to do for our own safety.

i think it is a sign that there is no hard rules in a person's life. quite understandable since, naturally, many belong to the mainstream so that means they can be interrupted anytime, anywhere and they are unconscious if fate would have it if they would meet an accident because of this. but personally, it does speak a lot for a person if a person just ignores of plainly puts his phone in a silent mode the moment he or she does the driving, does it?

The easiest way to curb this horrible problem would be to add some sort of IQ test to written drivers exam at the DMV. I question the intelligence of anyone who thinks they are able to pay full attention to the world around them while driving, and use a phone at the same time.
I don't care how good of a multitasker you may think you are, nobody is that good.

I was taught at a early job to multitask, multitask, multitask! I wonder if this is sort of engrained in these people's psyche's and becomes second nature to them and like other addictions it doesn't go full circle until something horrible happens--??

Well yes. . .It really cause a bad accident. My friend told me that when someone is send me a message through text i shouldn't reply but when someone call me i just need to grab my headset or just turn on the loudspeaker so that i can speak with them safe. With not worrying about any accident. I always do this BUT im not recommending it to anyone who always carry their cellphone even when going to the toilet.

I think it is best to just turn it off when driving. You are still distracted.

As i know there are some laws about these things while driving and now there must be people who should be enough careful while driving and honest in following in those laws and traffic rules.
I think there are most accident occurred due to breach of these laws only.

Yes, in several states there are stringant laws against texting while driving. There are still states that haven't gotten these inacted yet. Laws are made for a reason. Some people seem to think they are above the laws.

Hi there! Texting and calling while driving is a bad habit and can also cause accidents. Texting and calling not during driving is okay. There is already a law that prohibits people from using their phones while driving. The people should just abide to it and the police officers should call the attention of people who are going against it. :) People should know that using their phones while driving is very dangerous, and they should not use it while driving.

This is law is not in all states. Needs to be. Sometimes it takes a horrific thing happening before people get it.

Ya right! we are used with the saying: "When you drink, Don't drive". Now, it's more likely to be in the same scenario "When you text, Don't drive". It's a common law for everybody to understand even sometimes we are too busy and people are rushing everywhere. It means, there is no exemption to the law that when it is not followed, chances are you get to jail for a crime you never wanted to happen or you are the one who get killed.

I am agree with you. Texting and talking through Cellphones is a big help and do some pro's into our life because it made a real difference than before without having it, but it also brings us to misery. So for me i would rather suggest that anywhere in the world must amend a law for all the drivers that using their cellphones inside the car should be prohibited. In that way, the accidents in all roads will at least be decreased.

So you feel that the cellphones shouldn't even be allowed in the cars?
