I was just wondering if I was the only one who sometimes read a person's mylot discussion topic, and could not really understand it enough to answer them? I don't know if it me being just really stupid, and not intellecyual enough to understand what they are writing about, or whether it is just because they have not written very clearly what they wanted to write... so has this ever happened to you here on mylot, or do you respond to every discussion?

roseie: I respond only when I am comfortable with a discussion that has been initiated. If it is not clear I do not respond.

I don't respond to every discussion....not even every discussion started by people in my friend list. The discussions should interest me. Sometimes I am not interested in what the person is discussing and sometimes I don't understand what the discussion is all about. In both cases,I do not respond. There are some discussions that talk about how the day went for the particular mylotter...even when that's interesting and about someone on my friend list, I don't know how to respond to that. So, I let those go too.

I sometimes feel that some discussion limit what I can say and type, sometimes I just can't think of a decent response. I sometimes find a discussion that I feel I can really add too and then find that I really can't word what I have to say which in the end puts me off. I try to respond to discussion which I rate, one's which I feel won't be deleted and I like going back into the past such as this discussion which is 6 months old now.
Having things to say doesn't always come through, just like in real life when you can't add to something.

if I do not get feeling from the discussion subject line I do not try to evn read the discussion. There are many discussion I do not understand and do not waste time reading them any more. If reading 2-3 line I find it worth to read further than only I hit the respond button otherwise move ahead with the next discussion. Sometimes people start a discussion which is realted to a particular group or location and that every one is not able to understand.
I do not respond to every discussion but the one I understand and can connect my thoughts.

This line of yours I like very much "I do not respond to every discussion but the one I understand and can connect my thoughts."
It is necessary for us to identify ourselves with the topic of discussion and then only we can give the best.

I have had that problem sometimes. But as for answering every post, that's simply impossible; there are thousands every day! I pick carefully which ones I believe need my input.

I do not respond to every disscussion. there are some disscussions that I can answer as well. I basicly answer the disscussions that I know are easyiest for me to answer. some I will answer some disscussions that might require some more thought but I don't stay too long on thouses. it also depends on the subject of the disscussions as well.

NO. Why should I???
I am here to gain knowledge and spread whatever I have.
If the discussion is interesting, then I am least bothered whether the discussion is started by my friend or a stranger.

There are discussions that I can't relate to, I just skip them and look for other posts to respond to. Yes, I admit that sometimes I can't give opinions to simple discussions, I just thought that I am not in the mood to answer or I'm having mental block. Sometimes it took me two or three times to read a certain post and still I can't understand it. I'll just leave my PC and rest for awhile so I can have my mind back. But when I'm in the mood, the thoughts just come freely from my mind.

the difficulty arises when a topic posted need decoding, deciphering and is downright outrageous or ridiculous. but that was during my early days at mylot. now, i have altogether ignored such topics and just answer those that interest me. that way, i truly enjoy my time here at mylot.

Yes, Rosie, that happens to me also. I'm going to call it a grammer barrier. ( I just made that up. ) Sometimes I would read the discussion several times to see if it begins to make sense but it usually does not.
That's a shame because many of those discussions seem to be from a person who is asking for help or advice and I feel helpless.
Many who have responded to your question are also having difficulties with some discussions.

You sre certainly not alone there. Sometimes I log on and just cant find a discussion I want to respond to either in my in box or general search. Some choice of heading are good but by the time I read the body of the discussions I become confused or disinterested.
I bet it is the same for some of the discussions I have started. I do not think I am always very clear on what I want to say or perhaps did not use the best expressions. It happens. I doubt anyone answers all discussions.

You have to use your own judgment at choosing discussions to respond to. Sometimes you are inspired right away. others leave with you with a sense of uncertainty. You can't always know how your responses will be received.

no, of course that we are not stupid. it is just the language barrier.maybe our vocabulary is not vast enough. we only need to improve and if there is not a known word, there are always virtual dictionaries to help us. I've got one and it helps me a lot.
it does not mean that you are stupid if you do not understand something. maybe, there are different senses of words, like every language has. my language has as well different hidden senses and someone might not understand everything we are talking as we are using words with different understanding areas. this is all. we only nee to practice more and sometimes we can even ask people what they mean to say. usualy, on this site I have found really nice people and none ever offended me. all the best for you and keep in practice! bye now...
