work/school -- buy food or bring food?

When I was in high school, I normally bring food with me. I don't really like spending my allowance on food especially when my mom can cook lunch that I can bring in school. In college, I buy my food at the canteen. Now that I am working, I bring food sometimes and buy food sometimes. Bringing food can help you save money. But of course, if you want to taste more delicious and commercialized food, then you just buy them. Do you bring food at work/school? Or you just buy food? Why?

i usually buy food, no time to prepare food. and usually what we prepare at home will always be the same so i don't prefer it also. well there are so many food establishments in our area so you will not get bored of eating the same thing everyday

When I was in highschool, I would bring food with me. Since my brothers and I used to study in a really small school, we would have this picnic basket where all our lunch food and snacks are placed. We will just get food from the basket during our snack and lunch breaks. In college, I started to live in a dorm where cooking was not allowed. Thus, I had no choice but to buy food every single meal, every single day. Now that I'm working, since I'm again living with my family, I bring food to work. But sometimes, when I have nothing to bring, I buy food from the canteen.

I don't buy food when I'm at work because I don't get a lot of break time and I'd rather not leave and not get back in time to eat. So I pack my lunch. I don't pack anything fancy, I usually pack a sandwich that is relatively healthy and some 100 calorie packs of items and some water. It's cheaper and it's healthier to eat my own food. I can control my calorie intake that way.

It really depends on how I feel in the morning, and what time I wake up. Hehehe. If I wake up early, and I happen to be in the mood to cook, then I would bring food to work, but if I feel groggy and still sleepy, then I'll just resort to canteen food in the office. I'm actually lucky cause the food in the canteen is quite cheap, and well, the taste is Okay, I mean it's just right for the amount I paid for it. hehehe.

Inasmuch as I want to bring my own food, but I can't. I have to wake up at 5am or two hours before my class starts because I have to travel a long way from our home to school. It will only get spoiled and quite adds up to the things I carry. When my mother was still here, she used to cook food for me. But now that she's gone, I'd have to buy foods now.

Hi, I always used to carry food to school and college. When I was in school, we didn't have the canteen facility then, but now all schools have this facility. But I still feel that students should carry home cooked food. In college I used to carry food from home. We used to eat at the canteen once a week or on special days like birthdays or functions at collge. I preferred only home cooked meals since canteen food used to be too oily or spicy.

it's been a tradition for Filipinos to bring food, it saves money and shows the care of your mother or wife who normally prepares the food with touch of love. although i prefer hot meals (newly cooked foods) i tend to bring food when my budget is limited.

I do buy in the canteen whenever lunch break when i was in college. It was very uncomfortable to bring food at school because inside my bag I have so many things inside there and I have external things that I also hold. And lunch break we need to move as fast as we can so I just buy in a canteen. Now that I am working, it depends if my mother prepared something for me or if I do like or feel like to have a packed lunch I bring lunch. Anyway if I do not bring, I can buy near in the office. It is good to have packed lunch because it can saves money and time at work.

When I went to school, I alwas brought the food with me from home. There were two reasons to do so: the first one was to save money and the second reason is the at the school where I studied was no canteen. Nowadays, I follow this habit as I still take my food when I go to my work and I also send my children with the food to school. It's very important to me not to spend more money than the necessary because of the difficult time actually.

Canteen Food - Food at the canteen
hi pierrella same here, i also bring food at school so i won't have to spend my allowance buying food at the canteen, and also my food is much more delicious because my mom cooked it and i know if it is clean because i know my mom is responsible for my health unlike those food at the canteen we don't know if it is clean or not because we're not there when they are cooking those food so i prefer bringing food,, have a nice day.. nice discussion..

I also bring food with me to school until high school. And from College onwards, I buy food. Aside from the fact that I can't cook a decent meal that's not fried, I'm living alone and buying food in the canteen would be cheaper than buying all those ingredients just to cook food to bring to work. I've tried it before but I can still save if I just buy my food in the canteen. Fastfood and restaurants are a different story though. :)

When I was in High school, I used to bring foods for my lunch to save my allowance, but I did also buy foods at the canteen just to taste new recipe, but sometimes I did buy foods because I forget to bring mine. Bringing food for lunch is just a practical way to save money. =)

Well, I usually bought food when I was at work. They always had a wonderful cafeteria but it was hard to control my weight doing that. I only bought food because i always forgot to buy food that I could take to work when I went grocery shopping for food at home. When I did remember I always brought my food becuase it was cheaper and I could better control my food intake.

Packed Lunch - i love packed lunches. They are made with love and bring packed lunch with you helps you save money. :)
Hi Pier. I agree with you. Now that I'm working, I bring a packed lunch with me. I love bringing packed lunches because it's my dad who cooks for me. He cooks with love. LOL. Also, it helps me save money. I don't need to buy food anymore since I already packed lunch. Just to share with you, I'm trying to manage my finances and everyday, I have a challenge called "The 100-peso challenge". That means that I should only spend 100 pesos every day so I can save money. Just to share with you, my transportation allowance from home to work and vice versa is 75 pesos. :)

During my grade school years, I almost always brought my lunch to school. i always had a new cool lunchbox to show off. I stsrted to buy my lunch in my high school years. Bringing your lunch from home was not as cool as buying with your friends.

Ever since my Mom was busy with our business, so she really doesn't have the time to cook and prepare for our food specially breakfast or lunch, she would just gave us allowance to buy food outside home... I envy my classmate who bring their food which are prepared by their parents, sometimes I would wake up and prepare food for myself and bring to school, I would lie to my friends that its my mom who made it for me...

Hey Pierella, like you I sometimes make food at home and then take it to office and sometimes I eat in the cafeteria. I prefer home cooked food as its cheaper and also better health wise. Eating out is nice once in a way as I've heard a lot of restaurants put soda in the food. That makes you feel full then but its not good for health. When I'm not lazy, I wake up a little earlier than usual and cook something for lunch and take it to office. Otherwise I have a fruit bowl and juice at office if I'm not hungry. But most times I end up eating junk and I put on weight :-(
