Most women grow their nails long BUT I noticed that even guy are growing their nails long sometimes. I am a girl but I don't really like growing my nails long because I feel that they might break and it would be really painful. I just want to keep it short and clean
For guys, some are growing their fingernails long for a purpose (maybe because of a job or something?)
Do you like growing your fingernails long? Why or why not?

I like to grow my nail make it long and give it French manicure but I had a dog that I had to bathe regularly and I had to cook sometimes.
So its bad idea to have long nails although I really like it. When you have long nails Its hard to cook especially cutting thing in cutting board or when bathe your dog you may scratch his skin when rubbing him.

French tip is perfect for long nails. It looks good but if the manicure is of low quality, the white part will just chip away.

Yes. Yes I do. It makes plucking the guitar way more easier with longer nails. I would only grow my nails on the first four fingers of my right hand. Plucking the guitar with short fingernails was really dull and the sound just did not come out right.
That is the only reason why I would keep my nails long, other than that, I would prefer my nails short because its pretty troublesome. Especially when they break, its very very annoying.

Very handy. I use a pik (I'm not really sure about the spelling) that is why I get to keep my nails short even though I play the guitar :)

samme here, i prefer my fingernails short and neat. long nails don't really look good on my hands or feet. i like keeping em short not only because it looks tidy but it's more comfortable when typing with the keyboard, playing the piano, and basically any work my hands do.

I play guitar so i like my nails short. It gets in the way when i'm playing whenever i leave them long and it's very uncomfortable for me. Besides, i don't see any advantages for me if i leave my fingernails long besides picking my nose. Lol. :)

HAHA! Very nice!
I play the guitar too and I want my nails short whenever I do. If not, I tend to scratch my guitar and make the squeeky sound.

Yeah. But I grow only one finger nail which is my thumb nail. I am a cellphone technician and we use our thumb nails to open up some hard-to-open parts and casing especially in high-version Nokia cellphone models, like in Nokia N70.

I prefer my nails short. If they get too long then my fingers start slipping on the key board. I believe that long nails are harder to keep clean too. Years ago my aunts heart surgeon had his pointer finger nail about 3 inches long. She said he used it like a surgical instrument to clean out heart valves.

Really? Wow, isn't that painful? If the nail is pointy, that might hurt a bit. But of course, patients won't feel anything when they are under anesthesia. But still, that is a cool use for a long fingernail :)

I would like mine to be long. However the hard part is the length. I need them to all be the same length or I dont like them. They were growing nicely for a while, but then I started with my gardening and now they wont grow the same. I am thinking I need to take my vitamins and eat things to make my nails stronger.

I agree! It would look messy if they're not the same length.I think eating food high in protein would help in making nails look healthy. Foods like fish and meat :)

I grown my nails before when I want to paint it with manicure. I want to make my nails look fashionable. But when the paint is ruined it doesn't look good and I stop doing it now. and maybe because I was so busy before that is why I have no time of painting my nails. I maintained my nails to be short because its hard to type in keyboard when my nails is long. I feel very uncomfortable. And sometimes when I scratched myself when something is itchy it can bleed because of my growing nails. Some growing nails look good on other's hand, but on my hand it doesn't look good.

Me to! I tried growing my nails long but apparently, it doesn't look good in my hand! Maybe it must be because of the shape. It grows outward and it looks weird if it's long. I tried putting on manicure too. But when it grows, I don't have the time to repaint it. THen it will look awful. So i just keep it simple and clean.

Hello,
No I dont like to grow my nails long as I am a smoker and my nails normally turn yellow nicotine stained if I let them grow to long. I am a bloke so I dont have to worry about painting my nails with nail varnish or going for manicures. Some men may like to do this , but it's not my cup of tea.
Another reason why I dont grow my nails long is because it makes typing on a keyboard alot more difficult to do. Not a good thing if you spend any length of time in myLot.
Have fun...

I have always cut my fingers nails when they are long already. Maybe because of my work long before. I have to insure that my fingernails are short since my works involves rescue work and having long finger nails is a disadvantage. Despite the fact that I am no longer connected with the rescue unit, I maintain a short fingernails. Perhaps I have been accustomed to such and find long fingernails somewhat a discomfort.

No I don't like to grow my nails long because I am always busy doing household chores and it means you have to wash your hands often. I can't grow my nails either because they become itchy when they grow a bit long. What I do is to clean them after a hard days work and I really don't appreciate long nails. It's a kinda like a witch nails when it's long.

I agree. When you do household chores, the dirt will just accumulate in your long nails. You can also experience split ends with your nails :)

Oh...it depends on my mood. Sometimes I like longer nails and sometimes shorter ones. 2 months back I had long nails (that phase lasted 2 months) and then I got a new touch screen phone and it was hard to text with my nails..lol. So, I keep them short now.
I hate guys with long nails (for whatever reason). It eeks me out...and it's repulsive to me.

I've pretty much always had long nails. I remember I was about 8 and I was on a school bus and I scratched this kids face. The principal made me ride a different bus and told me if I did that again that I would be made to cut my nails. I was horrified I couldnt imagine being forced to cut them. I always thought wearing long nails was very pretty. Then I look at kids now that have long nails and I think eww why dont their parents make them cut their nails haha. For about 6 years I kept my nails short while my kids were little so that I wouldnt accidently scratch them when I was trying to change their clothes or diapers but recently I started wearing them long again. They look so pretty but I hate when one breaks and then I have to cut them all so they are even. If I dont then I have all long nails with one short one and it just looks stupid. That is the case right now I have all long nails on my fingers except for on two nails. If you are used to having long nails as they grow then it is not difficult to type on a computer or do other things. Its when you arent used to having long nails and then suddenly you go and have acrylic nails put on and suddenly easy tasks arent easy any longer. This happened to me at my prom when I was younger. I got acrylic nails put on and went to type on the computer at night like I always did and it was so hard my nails kept getting in the way and hitting other keys so I had to type on the very tips of my fingers. It was very difficult.

Nope. :o) I keep them nice adn short. I cut them every couple of days, but I am a musician, who needs short fingernails. But the majority of people all around me (orchestra, theater, music teachers) all have short, short nails, and it is a need for all of my studnets to keep nails nice and short also. Keeps things more sanitized, safer, and less chance of chip/breaking them. :o)

I used to keep my nails a little longer than normal, but when I worked at target they would always get caught on boxes in the backroom, so I started clipping them really short and they have been that way ever since.
