Dumping out the trash vs burning the trash. Which one would you choose?

Last year during the summertime, I lived with my in-laws. My father-in-law would leave out for work early in the mornings. I would be awake sometimes when he would leave out. But I would be in the bedroom. And when I walk past the kitchen when he is gone, the trash bag is so full of trash. I don't say anything. But it annoys me. I then will take the heavy bag out of the trash can and I will put another new bag in there. I know that my father-in-law saw this bag so full before he left to go out this morning. My father-in-law is an Carpenter. He is self-employed. He has been for many years. He took upon this trade after learning from his father, whom was a Carpenter too. So instead of dumping the trash he leaves it full for someone else to dump it. Well, actually this trash is burned in an old rusted oval tin can outside. This tin can is useless. The trash burns from the bag and onto the ground. So, there is nothing but piles of dirty, burnt trash that is laying around the back yard. Which is disgusting. Then the dogs and cats will pull the trash all over the yard, which makes it even more messier. I don't understand why my father-in-law could not dump the trash on his pick up truck. There is a dumping site that is nearby about five minutes into driving from his trailer. He could at least take the time to dump the trash when he leaves out. I know that he saw the trash bag so full and spilling over in the kitchen. I just don't get him. Why risk burning the trash to have it all scattered out on the yard, when instead he can just take the time to dump his trash at the dumping site. This is a better easier clean up, don't you think?? He is the only person in the home that has a pick up truck. The car that me and my husband drives is an Oldsmobile. Which is no where near being a truck. My father-in-law has the proper vehicle for dumping the trash. And when he leaves, everyone else does not get up till about 3 to 4 hours later, this leaves the trash bag so full with stinky trash for someone else to take out whenever..

Hi there. I prefer dumping the trashes. It also helps our environment to stop global warming. Coz in dumping our trashes can also be turned in to fertilizer if I am not mistaken. But burning trashes... ugh! That stinks! Its not good for our health because of the smoke that we can inhale, it is also harmful to our environment if I am not mistaken again. You should tell ur Father-in-law to avoid burning trashes, instead recycle it. or dump it. or bury it. it'll be good for all of us.

Dumping out the trash is more applicable in my place. I don't like smoke and the smell of the garbage. There is a truck that comes in the street everyday to pick up the trash. We don't have problems with. in the province before we burn the garbage together with the dry leaves, but on the place the place is big compare to our place right now. It only make it messier if we burn it.

Now I'm seeing a pattern. It's a man thing. It has to be because my dad, brothers and my husband will walk right by the trash can seeing it so full that it's almost overflowing and not take it out. Why is that? I don't know. Now if I take it out and set it beside the trash can, then my husband will take it out. Go figure. LOL We don't burn our trash but put it in the outside bin for the trash pick up. Burning trash makes such a mess..... as you already said.

I like to burn the leaves trash and put the plastic garbage in the proper area of the rubbish. Sometimes I keep the things that I can be recycled or used as a fertilizer someday. Without burning it and preserving the stuff , it can help a lot with the plants as it is rotten in the soil.I burn the leaves for it can produce smoke to let the home insect

Hi, genuistiger. Burning just leaves and trash are too different things. What you are doing is not as bad as what my in-laws are doing with their trash.

Hi cream97, Take heart my friend, there is someone in my family that don't take out their trash and we in an apt and they provide a way to get rid of trash. He just to darn lazy to do it. I don't understand why they don't and how in heaven name can he live with the smell. The thing I can come up with (1) he lazy (which I stated above) (2) hoping someone else will come over and take it out for him (Which is me) or (3) he just don't care. Take care Snow

i think burning trash would only cause more damage to the nature. I think when you burn trash it would produce unwanted natural gases and it would only makeb matters worse. i think the best is to make sure we bury our trash well, to segragate and to recycle.

WEll well well, if u dun feel like it, u can choose to ignore it, like your fatheri n law.. BUt too bad, u cant stand the sight of it, or the smell coming from it, thus u have no choice but to do it I wont go for burning of trash if possible, because of the plastic bags being used to hold those trash.. IMagine the burning smell of plastic?? IT's not good for us, as well as mother earth.. haha =D BY the way, if the trash in your house, is not too big a bag, u can always get your husband to dump it at the dump site ^_^

Hi, In this situation I think I would rather dump the trash at the local dump. However, I might burn trash that won't put out noxious fumes. I'd just try to get a better tin bucket, or sweep the yard afterward and put the scraps in a trash bag to go to the dump. I guess that'd be silly though, but It'd better degrade at the dump then it would at home, and the yard would be clean. I can't talk much, I don't like to handle the trash. There is a full trash bag in the trash right now but instead of taking it out, I just put more in. I know it's rather lazy of me, but I've never really liked dealing with the trash... No excuse I know. In any case, if we were to have a proper vehicle for disposing of the trash AND if we were to be going near our local dump, we'd take the trash to the dump. Then again, the trash man comes every week so we only go to the dump for the bigger things.

Some families have family meetings and discuss issues. Anyone can call one of these meetings. Communication is very important in any relationship. He may not even think of it at all and have other things on his mind. You might be pleasantly surprised. It sounds like he could easily take the trash out when he leaves.

You are in a very difficult situation. Burning the trash is a sure no no for us. It is always better to segregate the trash first then dump it into the proper place. At least that is what we do in our household in the Philippines.

Hi cream, Getting rid of garbage is a huge problem in cities. But at the same time we have to do what we can to keep our surroundings clean .In my case I make compost from all the kitchen waste and I burn all the dry waste stuff like paper, dry leaves etc regularly. We have a pit for dumping the dry items and I burn it very two or three days.I use the ash along with the compost for my plants..

Your Father-in-law is a surely lazy man. I mean I guess you guys were lucky that the dumping site was nearby. You don't need to wait for the schedule to come in order for you to dump you trash. Yes! I prefer dumping out the trash. Burning the trash out would be something that can actually pollute the air, I admire you for being concerned on this. It might be a simple issue but It can make a great effect on the environment. Hope your Father-in-law may somehow realize it. Oh by the way, good observation! Happy mylotting!

Hmmm.. tough life indeed but never let things like this get you down. Anyways I would rather choose to dump the trash rather than burning it. Because by dumping the trash, at least the trash can be managed properly by the government or private organizations. But burning it would only contribute to the worsening pollution condition of the Earth.

hi cream wow I am the first. oh burning trash is so messy and a lot of places here in The US and specially in California do not let you burn trash. I also like to take mine when I was still in an apt out to the dumpster before it was too heavy to carry. Shame on your father in law as he could have taken that to the dumping site. In that apt. complex we lived in before being evicted there were one hundred families for just 25 dumpsters so sometimes some sacks of trash landed on the ground but at least there was no trash around our apt. Some states like mine and ARizona do not permit burning trash, they are trying to make the air cleaner. To me its just unfair for the person who overfilled the trash bag not to finish the process, not leave it for someone else to do.
