Too much heat in summer, Too much rain in rainy days

Hi There We have experienced the wrath of nature these past months. One is the devastating rains of Ondoy. Many parts of Metro Manila was so devastated. Many became homeless. Many died. And then this summer. Too hot compared to the previous summers. Still not much rain when its supposed to rain on May. What's the cause for these abnormalities in our climate/weather? One cause is us, humans. Too much pollution. Throwing garbage everywhere. Cutting too much trees. Rainy days is coming according to PAG-ASA. We don't want another Ondoy. We don't want another oven-like heat next summer. So what will you do to help Mother Nature get better? What advises will you give to our fellow Filipino regarding our attitude towards the environment?

Well if we don't change our ways then we can expect more and worse than Ondoy. Are you ready for another Ondoy?

Hello... Allow me to share my opinion as I cannot resist to say my piece when the topic of discussion is about climate change and the environment. If you are my age (never mind how old I am) one can really discern the difference in our environment compared to that of 50 years or so ago. The heat of summers past is far less intense than the heat of summers of nowadays. One can hardly endure the summer heat today lest one suffers heat stroke and dehydration after an hour or so under the sun. In our youth the sun's heat was tolerable and bearable. During the rainy season, we had our share of heavy rains and typhoons but seldom will rivers and canals overflow and flood vast areas. Unlike today when just a few hours of rain will easily flood and devastate low-lying areas of towns and cities. What has caused this environment differences? There is talk about global warming and climate change. Who and what is responsible? Man's folly and indifference. We are now paying the price of our own greed and disregard of the health and condition of Mother Nature. Rampant deforestation, indiscriminate garbage and waste disposal, altering natural terrain and flow of waterways and drainage, destruction of the ecosystem, overpopulation, lack of proper education, government neglect and misplaced priorities, and so many more. When will we ever learn?

I agree with you. Its payback time for Mother Nature. So unless we change we should expect a lot worse.

the heat i think is still in the range, remember tugegarao registered in 1912 40 degree Celsius of temperature,,the rains that is the scary part back then i would take decades before strong typhoon hit our lands now every typhoon is somewhat devastating. simple measures are there to take, but the will to do it is another story. planting more tress can reverse the effect sooner, if only one of us would care to do our part.

I don't know about 40 degrees in tugegarao :D Thanks for the info. Yes planting trees. One of the simplest way to give back to mother nature. Do you participate in tree planting activity?

We are living along the tropical zone of the world and what we can really have is rains or too much sun. It was supposed to be that way from the start but it is aggravated by human activities and that's what's making it worse.

Actually its not really that hot before. And your right that we aggravated it. I hope we won't make it more worse.

our country got the extremes of both season. i bet if we can experience snow, we'll also have the coldest and thickest. start at home. if i'm going to the market i would bring my "bayong" to lessen the plastic usage

You are right we humans is the key reason why these thing happen, we never learned, I guest we really deserve everything that happen to our world, climate change, earth quakes, typhoons, El NiƱo and many more. I guest for us who realize this all we need to do is do the right thing and hope other people will follow, since I started to join scouting movement I always put little trash like plastic candy in my bag or pocket,

I usually do that. Put the little trash in my pocket then throw it to a trash bin/can when I see one. I don't really get it why others cannot do that. They just throw them and then they will complain whenever calamities like Ondoy happened. Do you think they have the rights to complain?

True I was actaully expecting a very hot summer this year because I experience that freaked rainy season in Ondoy. I was expecting that this summer would be a hot one because of that. We usually experience hot summers when we experience a very rainy or wet season. We have had one of the driest but cold December-February season. That was the cue that we will be having a very dry and hot summer. AS early as December rains started to stop already and it did get worse when summer came in. Yes that is true helping mother nature to recoup from pollution from spreading might help. But this must be a global concerted cooperation because we might as a nation work together but other nation is not cooperating then it would be of no use.

For me there is nothing we can do that, since our planet was totally ruined. The oven heat we feel is obviously comes from climate change. Ice is now melting in some parts of Europe and America. Ondoy that caused high floods was because of garbage and renovation of some lands. It is not too late to plant a trees. It is not too late to put garbage on garbage can and segregate those that can be recycled. it is not too late to use natural gas instead of petroleum so that it minimized air pollution. If we cannot do that, it is not too late to pray for our soul when we die.

You are right too much heat in summer and too much rain in rainy days. How I wish there is a push button where we can control our climate. Like if I want it to be just a little bit hot or i want some rain i could do it. But then mother nature is a massive force that nobody has the power to control. Maybe it's the mother natures revenge on humans because we have done some severe damage to the nature around us. We live here on earth and it's our own home...she provided us everything yet in return we just take that for granted. I think sometimes we deserve the wrath of nature.

You said it right juggerogre.. too much rain and too much heat in one year! Its really the worst of all times. I actually have a blog intended for recycling. It is called The Recycling Loop wherein i blog about what can we do to help Mother Nature. We must always remember to do 3 things : reduce, reuse, recycle. The problem with us is that we are fond of using plastics, throwing garbage outside especially in the rivers. We are too lazy to segregate waste. Dont get me wrong people - I am also a Filipino but my statement is really based in facts. We must change. We must help each other. This cannot go on forever.

For me because many are hard headed one to make ruin in this earth then the climate is not change by human nature it is needed the newly one and it is the God's government only so that no hot to much and no flood's if ever that there's a rain to heavy.

Urgh! I hate our weather, it just the two extremes, as you have said its very hot during summer/sunny days and too much rain, sometimes flood during rainy days. I think this is because of curse, that we have such weather, I heard this on tv when an Indian prophet said about this. The prophet was even on ABS-CBN. So I guess we have to pray, because we can do nothing with curses. WE just have to pray to God, be united and ask GOd for forgiveness so that our country will be forgiven and he will remove the curse.

well we have to restore our nature to stop all this calamities. our government should be strict when it comes to the issue of logging. tress should be planted to our lands and mountains. i think our government should make an action regarding our disposal of water. in other countries, dirty water from houses are recycled and cleaned to be used again by the people, but here, dirty water from houses go straight to the rivers. i'm happy that there are private people who make use of animal manure as a source of electricity. i think the government should promote and support those activities. we in our homes can also help in our little ways. we can grow plants in our yards and even indoors. let use segregate our wastes into those that are degradable and non-degradable. reuse or recycle things as much as possible. do not burn wastes. be a good example to the people around us.

Recycling waste water is a good idea. With proper equipment and technology I think we can also do that. Yes planting trees will be one of the best way we can do to give back to mother nature. I like the ideas you present here. If only the government will be more open minded and creative.

I'm quite lucky to be staying in the Summer capital of the Philippines. But compared to the kind of weather we used to have a few years ago, summer here is getting hotter as well. Too much pollution and lesser trees in Baguio. I just hope though that no more trees will be cut. I also hope that the Filipino people and the government will always be ready for the consequences of neglecting our duties to nature and hopefully we won't experience the worst like what we had from typhoon Ondoy and typhoon Pepeng in our case.

You are right. The summer heat was too much to bear and come June, let's expect too much rain . .. Proper disposal of our trash at home is one simple way to help save opur mother earth.

It seems that every where in our world the weather patterns have been extremely crazy. Even here in the U.S. we are seeing huge changes on a regular basis. It is scary how it is affection our environment. Around us lately, there has been a tremendous amount of rain. Many places are getting more flooding than they have seen in a long time. I only hope that it doesn't cause greater issues. We do need the extra water to keep our crops growing however, to much can be a bad thing as well.

Yeah you are right from it. This is the results of what man done abnormally in daily activities on earth. Each of one us should be vigilant of what he has made for the result is here now. Like what you have said above the garbage , just through in different corner and now they don't know i will come back if there is heavy rain or flood. Burning plastics and rubbers can make our ozone layer thin and for all to know it has already big hole that protect us heat of the sun its because of the more smokes come from the bottom. Some also higher officials make the agricultural lands into a very beautiful subdivisions and nothing can hold on water on stormy days and any calamities as almost part of the earth was transferred to this situation. Instead to campaign for tree planting and green environment they focused on their own profits for sure . So now we are suffering different things due to our destruction made. So we will go back to the basic plant more trees and proper disposal of garbage.

proper garbage disposal and lessen the use of chemical based products. I know its hard to not use chemical products but used natural and biodegradable products. Lessen the use of aerosol product, this is the reason why our ozone layer damaged.

The main cause for all of this abnormalities is climate change...some may think it is over rated but it's not...this is what we have done with nature and we are just reaping what we sow...
