Will Linux support hardcore games ?

All applications working in a Windows platform may not work in a Linux platform- this is a well known fact. But nowadays we can enrich our Linux OS and can make it work efficiently like Windows. If we take the case of games, especially more solid or hardcore games, I don't think Linux can support those. But I believe if some plugins are available, those games will work, but only to some extend. What do you think on this..?
