How do you deal with delay/no payment from buyers?

Hi, everyone! I hope to find some solutions to these situations that I am caught in. I used online auctions to sell stuffs and there are people who likes to bid for my stuffs but decided to void their bids and they don't even bothered to notify me and I have to end up "begging" them to reply me. Recently, there is a interested buyer who told me that she is keen in getting the items from me but she told me that she will be able to pay me by next week. However, now she tells me she might only be able to pay by next week or the week after next. Have you have ever encounter such situation? How would you have deal with it? Allow them to default on payment and keep on waiting endlessly? How do you deal with delay/no payment from buyers?

Deadbeats. Put them on your block list, relist the item or if you are selling on ebay I believe there is a second chance offer you can give to the next person who bid. It is not worth the frustration to chase money down. Also be particular by updating the rating a person needs to be to bid. You have to remember most of these people probably bid to get some kind of reward off another site for signing up and bidding. Sorry this is happening to you.

Hi KarissaAngel, the situation is, the item has only 1 winning bid. Thus, I am not very sure who likely it will sell. This is one of the first encounter that I am caught in where the person tells me she needs time to make payment (without success). And no, I can't give her negative rating. (An ability that has been removed from all sellers for some reasons I don't know). Have you met with such situations where the payment never came? What is your solution to it?

Not referring to a negative comment. You can add them to buyers block list. That way they cannot bid on any of your auctions. I have ran into that situation twice. Both times I made a report to ebay and also let them know I want a credit to my account. They provided it, of course. Then I just relisted it. The buyer must follow the rules also. But also I have don't have anyone bid on any of my items unless they have at least a 5 rating. Again I am sorry for this happening to you.

Oh yeah, you are right! I should do that. Don't know why it slipped my mind. Okay, then I shall report them if I ever encounter them in the future. I have set the requirement to allow only people with certain ratings but still, such situation happens. One of these bidders completed a deal with another seller but just refused to response to me. I saw the auction end date was like 1 day after my auction closed and the rating was given 2 days after my auction. That's when I really want to give them a non-paying rating. Can't auction sites have that kind of ability to warn other sellers that the buyer could be a potential non-paying bidder? It's so upsetting to remember but I am fine after voicing out such situation. Cheers

in my case, i required someone to message me first if they are interested before they bid to my item, and once they win they must contact me within 24 hours or the item will returned to auction or to the next bidder. then they must at least pay me within 3 days from the date the auction end, so far i have no problem with my buyers as they followed my requirements and i got payment within 24 hours. you must also be strict and include that as one of your requirements, i also added that if winning buyer failed to contact nor pay me within 3 days i will report them to ebay management.

Yes, actually I give them 3 working days to make payment and notify me of payment made. But it seems that the written procedure just failed to reach them and I ended up chasing them. I was deciding to impose a fee to the person for making reservation but I decided to leave it out in the end but impose a deadline. Although I know most likely the item won't be able to get a bidder in such a short time, but it's better than being played around like a fool by the bidder.

it depends how desperately you want to get rid of the items. Dont send anything until you have gotten payment from the buyer of course, but maybe give them two weeks if your not desperate to sell the item, or even put it back on the auction, if it sells sell it, and tell the other buyer it was tough, if it doesnt sell them the woman who cannot pay yet can have it!!!

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. That's what I have in mind as well. Unless the item really can't get going, else it shall goes to the paying one.

I would not release the items until payment was received for one thing. And, I would take the productis off the site for a while. After the deadline passes, I would give the interested buyer a phone call or some kind of message. And, I would give them a deadline. If they fail to meet my set deadline the item goes back up for bid.

Hi, same thoughts here. As long as no payment received, I would not send the items. I will send them notifications for 2~3 times and if they don't response, I will just cancel their bid.

Hi friend, that's a huge amount that you are looking at. I hope that you will recover the money or the parts soon. But you have to prepare for the worst case scenario but hope for the best. For me, I have make it an effort not to commit to a sale (regardless of the amount involved) if the buyer requires me to send them the item before any deposit or payment made because I find it hard to trust them.

This is the very reason why I try to avoid selling or buying from websites like this. Definitely dock her on her website rating. But that doesn't necessarily help you get their money. Have you read the website rules and info to see if there is a policy on this to figure out which route of action you should take? What she is doing is unacceptable. She should not have purchased the product if she couldn't pay immediately and she may have no intentions of actually paying you.

No, I can't avoid selling because my room is almost packed with the tons of collection that I splurge on. Thus, I hope that I can sell them off to get some cash back. The frustrating thing is, the online auction website that I used, they have disable the negative rating ability for seller to give a negative rating on buyers. Although the auction site mentioned about able to report on the bidder which will leave a bad record in their database, I don't find it worth the effort for me to report them because they are usually a 1 time bidder with my auctions. And yes, I really find it unacceptable that she has failed to make payment. After all the troubles I went through to help her find the items, she tried to bargain for a lower price. And then came the slow/snail email response (It's almost the time I need to get a response back using snail mailed). And after begging her for like the umpteen time to place a bid which she finally did, she is now notifying me about delayed payment without a deadline. Thus, I am really hoping that I can find some solutions in mylot. Really appreciate your response. Cheers
