When I was a young girl growing up in NY, my parents took me to a breeder who specialized in wolf mixes. We bought the runt of the litter -- Helmut Von Schniper. His sire was a gray timberwolf and his mother was a black and silver German Sheppard. Now, years later, they're called McKenzie Sheppards. They're gorgeous, highly adaptive, and very protective.

He must have been very beautiful and very big! I adore wolves - we have a Jack Russell, whippet cross at the moment, she's our smallest, youngest dog, she's tiny, very delicate with long bambi legs. The strangest looking dog we ever owned was a gorgeous Corgi, Alsation cross, he had a tiny Corgi head and short legs and a big Alsation body, with a triple coat that got matted real easily if you didn't brush him for just one day. He was really nice natured though..

That sounds like a very interesting mix indeed. Do you have a picture of your dog? I love having mutts, but I always adopt mine. I understand why you would have to get this kind of mixing from a breeder. But I could never buy from a breeder when I know there's a dog somewhere in a shelter waiting for me.

Many of these cross breeds have not turned out so well, they are very intelligent and need to be kept active and have strong owners who are good pack leaders. It's great to hear the success stories.

I used to have a dog that was Corgi mixed with a Jack Russell Terrier. He was perhaps the most adorable dog I have ever seen in my life, but, as you'd expect from what made him up, he was an absolute bundle of energy. He was a really smart dog as well, quickly learning his name and to sit or come.
