Very afraid of darkness. Been a scaredy cat all my life. Terrified of the dark especially after watching clips or full-length horror movies. If I could have it my way, I would sleep with the lights on. My imagination is set to full gear whenever I catch a glimpse of horror movies or shows. The very thought of it makes me shiver. Tingles down to my spine. Brrrr!

I too think that when I do get scared (like when I think ghosts could pop up in my mirror) it is just my imagination (which I have an amazing one) going wild. Like I'm trying to psych myself out and scare myself with the possibilities even though I know there are no ghosts in my apartment or anything. lol

Many horror movies don't scare me now. I get freaked if there are scenes where ghosts pop up in mirrors because I sometime use the bathroom at night and I'm scared I might see something in the mirror lol Even though my place is not haunted or anything. I used to be afraid not OF the dark, but what could be IN the dark, when I was little. I hated getting up at night for water or the bathroom because my bed stood off the ground and I would think about a hand grabbing my ankle. My closet ALWAYS has to be closed. I wouldn't be scared now if it was open, but I've just gotten into the habit of always closing the closet doors. I think people are afraid of what could be in the dark. I'm not afraid anymore. I know there are no ghosts in my place and that the only monsters out there are real people with sick minds. I own knives and swords so I'm not afraid of confronting a burglar if I have to, and I've realized the only reason killers in horror movies are so "tough" is because they are crazy and never give up, so you just have to go into the same attitude if you are faced with someone trying to harm you. I have been watching horror movies since I was a baby, literally. I grew up on horror and sci-fi movies. I still don't like to be home alone if there is like a storm or something I hate the lightning and getting scared by a sudden loud burst of thunder. Other than that though, not really afraid of being in the dark.

I guess it just depends on how my day has been on rather or not I am scared of the dark. Or if there is a storm, I get scared of the dark. Most of the nights I will sleep good in a pitch black, cool bedroom but there are nights when my day has been full of mishap I turn the light on to the bathroom which is off of my bedroom to sleep.

I was extremely scared of the dark as a child. I was sure that there was some kind of monster under my bed or hiding in my closet. I would often sleep with the light on. Now that I am older and wiser these ghosts have vanished from my imagination. Every now and then a memory will creep up on me. Then I will probably turn on the light, but for just a little while.

Like you , I get scared of the dark after watching a scary movie. I'm normally not afraid of the dark but I just help imagining monsters coming after me when I've just a scary movie. So , I just rush straight to my bed and try to go to sleep really quickly. I might even pull the sheets over my head if I'm that scared .

I grew up watching the Twilight Zone, and Outer limits. I think I'm immune from being afraid because of those shows. I am often calmed by darkness. I never bought into scary stories or superstitions that said something scary lurks when the sky becomes dark.

I'm most of the time not scared of the dark, but only when I walk to buy something somewhere around midnight to dawn.

I don't actually get afraid of the dark...but like you, when I watch a horror movie, it does mess with my mind when I am trying to go to sleep! Every little creaking noise I hear startles me a little, lol.

Technically speaking no, i;m never afraid of the dark. But speaking in real life i do get scared of even going to the toilet alone when it is dark. It is not because I'm scred in ghosts or something infact I 95% don't believe in such things(if not for my imagination in the dark i would have said 100% DAMN :) ), I just fear crooks, robbers. They more than just anything in this world and that too the robbers of these days do anything for money and the newspapers give headlines regarding burglary most of the days. I guess my reason to get afraid is justified here :)

If I am alone then I would say yes to complete darkness. I don't mind it dark if I am on my own but so long as there is a light on somewhere... for example I always leave the bathroom light on for my kids, and it just gives a little light from my room which is ok for me... I cannot sleep if it is too light... But it is totally different if I am with someone, then I don't care how dark it is lol... I am not like you though I do not like horror films... probably because of trying to get to sleep at night and the images from the horror film would keep me awake and make me feel paranoid, even though I know that the film is just a story... i think it just makes me feel a bit on edge and uneasy... either that or I am a wimp lol

It's not so much the dark that I fear as much as it is of fearing what might be in the dark. I sleep with my door closed and in pitch blackness every night so that's not a problem. But if my door was open or I was outside and couldn't see then I would begin to get a little bit afraid.
