there are different forms of arthritis and it is important that you know which form you have so that it can be managed properly. for years i have been having episodes of inflammation that would affect my fingers, wrist, toes, feet, even my foot pads. i've been prescribed medications but i don't really like taking meds if i can help it. recently i was tested for anti-ccp; it's supposed to rule out rheumatoid arthritis. the test came out negative so that's good news! but i still continue having episodes of inflammation. i've tried to figure out what triggers the inflammation; for several years i've systematically eliminated food items from my diet. the conclusion i came up with is that i react to any kind of animal protein; different sources affect me to different degrees. if i eat beef something will become inflamed much faster than if i eat chicken. some types of fish affect me faster than others. so what to do now? i guess i'll have to become vegetarian.

everyone will eventually develop some form of osteoarthritis; it's a natural part of ageing. but you're right eating healthy from a young age will help delay or even prevent the other types of arthritis. so eat healthy :)

I have RA and OA. I think rice helps, when i eat it i seem to feel better. I have nothing but me to back it up. It is said that cherries help, something about the dark skin. I use fish oil capsules, but more for cholesterol. Of course i take medications.

hello sallyj. yes sometimes meds are inevitable but it's good if we can find other natural remedies that will help alleviate the pain. i've heard too that cherries are good anti-oxidants and fish oil because of its omega 3 fats. all of us will eventually develop OA at some point. it's a natural part of ageing. i think we have to continue looking for ways that work for us personally; what works for one may not work for another. good luck :)
