Searching myLot for a specific member?

Do you think we should be able to search myLot for a specific member by name, age group, location, star ranking, number of discussions participated in (the number next to star), gender, discussions responded, interests, and other criteria? I think this could be very helpful in finding people of your age group and with similar interests. But I also think it would lead to spamming and abuse.
What do you think? Do you think a member search should be enabled on myLot? If so, how should it be done to avoid abusing?

If you know the correct user Id of anyone who you wish to search, all what you need to do is type http://www.mylot.com/ and then add the user ID of the one you are searching for. That will be their profile url.

I am not so sure that I would change anything in the way MyLot is at the moment. I appreciate your reasoning but abuse may become rife if there were more ways to search for members. I have wished in the past to be able to look for other members by name and I don’t know if it’s possible because so far I have not been able to do it and I am not sure what the repercussions will be if such a feature was added.

I think you can't search like that on mylot. You may be able to do like that in a few social sites but not here. Still Mylot is a very good site for making friends and interacting.

On the one hand I think that this would be a great feature to have made available to us. However, on the other hand I really feel that it would do more harm than it would be helpful. Because of the fact that there isn't a way to search for members according to certain demographics I think I've been able to develop a much wider base of friends that I may not have been able to get to know if there was anything that is different about the site.

Perhaps by age group. But location and name wouldn't be good because there are some nuts out there. The political discussions can get a little heated and it wouldn't be good for some folks to have an idea of where you live. I remember seeing a webcaster of Justin.tv. Although she didn't tell where she lived, she told us the midwest and gave the name of the radio station she was listening to. There were call letters for a station in Cleveland and some western town. Thus, she indirectly gave information to where she was close to. I've already indirectly given information that I worked at an amusement park. The fact is, a little information on the internet adds up to too much information, if someone is savvy and looks hard enough.

Problem with this idea is if I am not mistaken that people can make their age and location private..so even if you could do this, I don't think you would the private ones...

snam23 no I don't like that idea as like you say yourself it will be abused, p people will flame those they have some grudge against, leave' mylot as it is. You can find through alphabetizing your friends list all your friends easily. and some of this is going too far too. I do not want people looking at how many of this or that I did, and what the heck does age group matter? oH of course here in the US you as young people think any one over 50 is not to be talked to yet I have my lot friends here of all ages and its not killed me yet. the idea of a mylot search being enabled makes me shudder.I am open and honest but yet I would like to keep some of myself to myself.
