The obsession with Twilight: Do you get it?

I just don't get this whole obsession with the Twilight series. I think what gets to me the most is I am on a social network site with "moms" and there are younger and older moms that are absolutely in love with the male characters of the movies as well as the books. Anyone else not getting this? In fact, I think the vampires in the series aren't really characteristic of what I grew up with.

Well my daughter who was 27 at the time Twilight came out was obsessed with this movie and the books. She kept asking me to watch it with her and I kept telling her I'm really not interested in this type of movie. Well one day she asked me again so I said I will watch it for a little bit if its not for me I'm not going to continue to watch it. Well low and behold I really loved it. I thought it was good and I couldn't wait for the second movie New Moon. Now it will be Eclipse out next month and I'm looking forward to it. I was really surprised at myself that I would really like this type of movies.

I just don't understand why girls get so obsessed with this they bother Robert Pattinson and chase him everywhere. I don't get how they lose sight of reality enough to think that Edward Cullen is real and that they ARE Bella Swan. I'm surprised all the Twihards haven't moved to Forks, Washington already.

I don't get it either and I am into the Vampire genre. I have read just about every vampire novel I can get a hold of and I have to say I just didn't like Twilight. For me it was boring and badly written, I barely made it through to the end. I hear the movies weren't all that good either so I haven't seen them and I will not be reading the rest of the Twilight series either. There are some awesome vampire genre books out there but Twilight just ain't one of them.

I also do not get it, but then again a lot of people I know do not have the same interests as me anyways. We listened to part of the first book as an audio book during a road trip last year and I could not stand it.

Oh, I get it! I love Twilight, and the reason I love it has absolutely nothing to do with vampires or hot guys. In fact, I despise vampires with an unmatched passion. I don't care that Stephenie "ruined" them by making them sparkle in sunshine and drink animal blood. I like them better this way! I love Twilight because I love the story. I love Bella, and I can really relate to her in some ways. I like how chivalrous Edward is and how much he wants to protect her. I like the danger, the suspense, and the mystery of it all. My sister likes it for the same reason. So does my Mom. And (GET THIS) my 60 year old Dad who reads mainly science fiction novels. If you don't get it, that's fine. Not everybody is going to like the same things.

I don't get it AT ALL. I got the first one from the library to see what the fuss was about and hated it so much I wrote a spoiler on a piece of paper and stuck it a few chapters earlier before I returned it. A little harsh but I didn't want anyone else wasting their life on it. What gets me the most is not people obsessing over the characters, but people applauding Stephanie Meyer as a good writer. Seriously? She's beyond awful. It saddens me that people, and not just young people either, are reading this kind of thing. What hope do we have for their language skills if this is put on such a pedestal?

I dont understand why people obsess about movie characters in general. Yes some are gorgeous but chances are we will never ever meet them and if we do we are never going to have a relationship with them. In the first movie Robert Patterson was really cute but I dont think hes as handsome as the years go on. The other character Taylor whatever his name is ... he is still very handsome. I love the movies. I watched twilight and new moon but that is all. I have also read those books. I just borrowed eclipse from the libary and hope to read it soon. For Christmas I bought my sister all 3 of the movies that are out. I would have loved that gift for myself as well lol.
