I'm Learning To Be A Little Smarter With My Money=^..^=

In the past I used to order pizza about 4 times a month from a local, inexpensive pizza place. For the price the pizza was very good, in fact, better than Pizza Hut, Dominoes and Papa John's. Even though the pizza was cheap I still didn't have much left over after paying the rent and my bills. I'm on Disability and this was a challenge for me.
Well, about 4 months ago I discovered DiGiorgno Pizza! The best stuff AND you can buy a package of 2 for only $5. How great is that? Well, before I knew it I had a lot of spending money left over each month even after paying my rent and my bills.
I've always been more of a saver than a spender, so, I'm just excited about all the money that I'm saving each month. It just makes me feel rich and definitely smarter. Does anybody else here have any money tips and tricks?

Hello yugasini! Thanks for responding! You're probably better off not liking pizza. With all the cheese that it has it isn't very healthy. I would say that the healthiest pizza is homemade pizza because the ingredients are so much fresher and there is far less grease and fat.
Have a great day!

No, I never have. They all sound very delicious, though! What country are you from? India?
You could still make a pizza with ingredients from your own country. Every culture has it's favorite pizza toppings. Pizza originated in Italy and practically every country in the world has their own version of the pizza.
That's what's so great about pizza. You can add whatever ingredients you want. There are no rules!
Have a great day!

well I learn a lot from my traditional Multi Level Marketing company, my upline teach me to handle money, because even you have lots of many but you don't know how to handle it, it may only go to nothing, here is it, first you need to know what is your needs and your wants,
Needs: this is the thing that you need for your self and for everyday use like food, the things you need for personal hygiene
wants: this are the things the you can survive with out it, like luxurious thing
if you don't really need something you should not buy it even if its sale, or have discount as long as you don't need it you should not buy,

Hello xeroeight! You are right. Needs and wants are two totally different things and if more people recognized this they would learn to save and be a little smarter with their money.
Have a great day!

its good decision for you to start saving money and by maximizing whatever you have by having options. sometimes choosing the right products to buy does not only mean going for brands. there are quite a lot of alternatives that would help us save more and they are not of lesser value!
For me, what i do is to put a certain budget when going to groceries. I should not go over the budget and actually tries to have a change from the budget - then put the savings in a bottle for further savings. i think it is the best way to do it and to not think of your savings because they should only be used in the future - for emergency and when the need only arises.

Hello chiyosan! Thanks for your response! Exactly! I do the same thing when I'm grocery shopping. I stick with a budget and every few days I put all of my change in a large plastic juice jug. Last time the jug was all filled with change and I rolled all the coins I was able to deposit $200 in the bank! Yippee! Nowadays you just have to be soooo much smarter with your money.
Have a great day!

We used to go the Peter Pipers, for pizza every Wed. But when Pizza Hut had a special we found their pizza much better. Mr Gatti's Pizza is a smorg, where you can have all the veggies you can eat along with slices of Pizza. There are so many good Pizza Places its very hard to decide, but after trying them all I would go for the best Pizza regardless of the price- in other words you get exactly what you pay for!

Hello barehugs! Thanks for your response!
I totally agree with you. There are so many times I would rather pay for great quality and be less concerned with the price. It all depends on what I'm buying. Quality over price 99% of the time I say. For example, I learned the hard way that most store brands are NOT as good tasting as national brands. Even though national brands may be more expensive taste is more important to me. I rarely buy store brands. With other things I'm more lax.
Have a great day!

woooo hoooooooooo kellyjeanne! I say that it's great. Have you ever washed your sheets? of course but when you wash your sheets with the liquid fabric softener you can hang the top sheet over the shower curtain instead of drying it in a dryer. Then actually just apply the bottom sheet right to the bed immediately after washing. It drys quickly all by bedtime if you do it early in the morning you can have it dry by noon time and even then put the top sheet on it without tucking it in. Then a few hours later you can tuck it in and apply blankets and have it fresh made well before bedtime. You can even wash your blanket and hang it over the shower door, shower curtain rod or whatever you have. Just every time you take a bathroom break flip it over so it keeps getting plenty of chance to get the air and dry evenly. I say there is plenty more you can do. Consider changing the light bulbs to the new more expensive ones. I always say if you can't change them all at once... Change the ones you use most often and then use them in the spots you don't use them as much like a extra room, closet, porch light, hall light or whatever. But of course just keep looking for savings as they say a penny saved adds up. God Blesses! Sandy

Hey Sandy! How are you, girl? I sure do miss your posting here. I hope you decide to post more often like you used to!
Thanks for your response, sweetie AND for your tips. I think it's so great to see all the little tips that people use and in the end these 'little' tips translate to 'big' savings.
Here's another little tip. Instead of using fabric softner make about 2 or 3 baseball or even tennis size balls from tin foil (the kind that you cook with). It's supposed to help make your clothes a little softer just like fabric softener. I have never tried this myself because I never use fabric softener. If you do try it let me know how it works!
Have a great day!

I unplug everything I'm not using and only plug it in when I use it. This saves about $30 a month and I would save more if I unplugged the stove, washer and dryer and TV but for the TV I don't want to have to reboot the cable system every day. I buy nothing that is not on sale. I have a cell phone for emergencies but only pay $15 a month for it, it's just a basic phone. I don't eat at restaurants, don't go to movies, I really don't do much of anything and I need to change that. After all, I can't take it with me when I die! I need to be a little less cheap.
I saved $581 on a hospital bill recently, too, and created a discussion about it.

Hello dragon54u! Thanks for your response! You sound like an expert at saving money. Have you ever thought about starting your own website to help others as well?
I don't spend much on movies or eating out either. Because of my depression I isolate a lot and therefore don't get out much. I think when I start going out more I may get a basic cellphone like you. I don't know.
You're right about not being able to take it with you. I guess being too cheap is the other extreme. Creating a balance can be very tricky especially when it comes to money.
Have a great day!

if you want to save even more money, i dont know about your local grocery stores but where i am there is a brand, which is slipping my mind at the moment, but its only .82 cents a pizza, and they are really greasy but they arent bad, and if saving money is all you are really caring about, like i am, its a good deal. Another good tip is that if you are within walking distance of the grocery store, go frequently instead of just getting it all in one big trip, this is because most of the receipts that you will get from grocery stores will have coupons for things like car repair and gasoline, this will save you lots of money when those more expensive things come up. Just a few tips i have, hope it helps :)

Hello amko1of1! Thanks for the extra shopping tips! There is a grocery store a few blocks from me called Smart & Final. It's similar to those large club stores such as Costco, Sam's Club, etc., in that you can buy in bulk (as well as individually), but, you don't have to pay an annual fee. You don't have to be a member. Just walk in and shop. I also belong to many freebie sites that give you REAL freebies. Another words, you don't have to fill out forms and sign up for offers in order to get these freebies.
That .82 cents a pizza sounds like a great deal, but, I couldn't stand the grease. I'm trying very hard to eat a little healthier.
Have a great day!

I have tons (and I have shared quite a few of them here on MyLot, in different discussions as well), but I always enjoy learning more of them. It's kind of a hobby, haha!
