I am a vegetarian due to being brought up with this lifestyle. Both my parents have been vegetarian and over the years I have come to see why this choice is a good one.
I don't object to people eating meat but I do feel sad thinking about all the animals that were slaughtered to provide food for people.
There doesn't seem to be many vegetarians where I live so I am interested to see how many vegetarians reply to this discussion.

I am in the UK and being vegetarian is quite common here. I have been vegetarian for 23 years and all my kids have been vegetarian since birth and the oldest is nearly 20 now. I agree that I don't like animals being killed for meat either and that was the main reason I became vegetarian in the first place.

That's interesting to know Karen. In Australia, there seems to very few vegetarians. At least in my generation anyway.
I have been proudly vegetarian since I was born, I don't feel the need to try meat and I never will. It's just something that I do not find appealing in any way or form. And why kill animals to eat when there is many other things that humans can eat that involve no loss of life or harm towards living creatures. That's how I see it anyway.

I am not a vegetarian but I still eat vegetables. I love vegetables except bitter gourd, obviously because of it's bitter taste. I love to eat veggies because I know they are good for our health. I don't know how vegetarians are able to resist meat and fish but anyway I admire them for their discipline and self-control. I know their reasons I respect that. But I just can't give up meat and others not being eaten by vegetarians.

I became a vegetarian when I was four years old. Then I gradually became a vegan. Now I am a vegan person. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds plus I drink soy. I am vegan to health reasons as well as ethical reasons. It is an individuals choice what sort of diet he or she chooses I think. Every year there is a large vegan event in a city twenty miles away from my home. I will go to it this year and buy lots of vegan goodies.

How can we ever decide what's "right" or "wrong"? Just a philosophical side-note. . I am a vegetarian and have been since I was 12 (I will be 20 in about 2 months). To me, this feels right to me. I almost feel ready to take the next step..And go completely vegan. But I'm not quite there yet and I can't decide if that's going to be a "right" decision.

I couldn't be a vegetarian. When someone has to work hard physically it's a stupid thing to be a vegetarian. I noticed that I like more vegetables instead of meat but when I go to a trip in the countryside and walk a lot, I need some proteins to restore. So to be a vegetarian or non vegetarian depends on how much energy you need. If you stay most of the time in bed doing no exercise, you can be a vegetarian! So it depends on the life style. On the other hand, to eat little vegetables is not a healthy habit. I think a balanced diet is the best way.

Why did you decide to change your diet? I have been vegetarian for 27 years and see no reasons to change to eating meat again. I think a vegetarian diet is healthier and better for the environment and the planet too. Of course the final decision is an individual one.
