last night's episode of "kapuso mo, Jessica", one of the features was about sinigang. it was said in the show that it was declared as the most favorite dish of filipinos based on a survey conducted. it also has many regional variation. i was surprised to see the other version of sinigang. there are some that used lechon for the meat, another used camachile. i saw on a different show before "sinigang na balut". do you have a different version of sinigang in your place?

I live in Quezon City so I don't think there are unique variations of Sinigang here (at least that's what I know). But for the record, I crave for Sinigang na Baka.. especially my mom's cooking. My mom makes sure that the meat is very tender and that for me is the best Sinigang. :)

I also love sinigang! The only variations I have tasted so far are baboy and bangus. The weirdest was this one time where guava was used to make it sour. It was weird though, probably the reason why my brothers and I didn't like it. Hehe. However, I am interested and ready to taste the other variations of sinigang!

I haven't heard of those! I think I would rather taste/eat sinigang na tuyo instead of sinigang na balut. I just remembered, one of my dormmates cooked sinigang na sardinas. At first I thought that was weird, but apparently, he didn't use the canned sardines. Haha. My dorm mates who tasted it said it was good. I wasn't able to taste it because I wasn't at the dorm when they ate it.

we also use guava sometimes in sinigang but i don't enjoy it much cause sometimes i accidentally bite the seeds of guava and i feel pain on my teeth when it happens.
have you heard of sinigang na balut and sinigang na tuyo? hehehehe i haven't tried them though.

Hmmm.. Adobo is easier to cook. Plus, I don't think everyone would be a fan of something as sour as sinigang. I'd rather that they'd chosen Kare-Kare as well. Hehehe.. But in these times, I think that the instant Pancit canton noodles would be the food for Pinoys hehehe.. it's what people eat a lot these days.

i was also surprised cause i was expecting that it would be adobo...and i was telling myself why not karekare cause it's my favorite..hehehe. but i realized that sinigang nowadays is easier to cook and it's a complete dish cause it has veges, meat or fish and it has soup.

chicken, but use a different recipe but same taste. The chicken will turn black if you used the same ingredients.
but my favorite is the pork one.

Hello mspitot! I simply love sinigang as well. Ever since i was a little kid, i have this love for this dish especially sinigang na sugpo(tiger prawns) or hipon(shrimp). Sadly, i missed the episode of Jessica Soho last night. It would be very interesting to watch this for we filipinos are really sinigang lovers. I never remembered that we have a special version of sinigang in our place. The most uncommon version for me was to use santol or mangoes in replacement to the usual tamarind based sinigang to give it a sour but delectable taste. Good luck and keep on smiling!

aside from tamarind, we also use santol and kamias in sinigang sometimes but we ner tried using mango on it.
the other day my dad brought about a third sack of mixed apple mango and indian mangoes. they are given by my father's friend and the apple magoes are very sour. my dad said that his friend uses apple magoes in sinigang and he sais that it's good.

yes,i really loved sinigand,specially pork sinigang.yummyy!
well,i think most filipinos loved it that sometimes it's called the national food/viand. filipinos really loved soups, whether it's not the part of the meal, but just the side or extra stuff for the meal specially at carinderias. i remember my college days,we are (with my classmates),we tend to be thrifty when it comes to expenses specially to foods,we really liked the carinderia on our university where it is served always with soups, sometimes the soup itself is a meal for those who really have no money, just rice and soup can do the thing.
soups are really satisfying and somehow makes you full.and it is lovable when it is served really hot.even the weather is hot,we will always patronize having hot soup on our dishes.
at home we always have sinigang pork or fish.we seldom have shrimps. and we don't have any creative stuffs when it comes to sinigang,we loved the original thing served with gabi. i haven'd watched the episode you are stating but looks like fascinating, but i think it's kinda weird cause i haven't tried it yet.
specially the balut,,, kinda exotic,i think!

Oh I love sinigang. I never tasted that one for a long time since I am here. My favorite sinigang is Sinigang na bangus. I love that but I just have that long time ago when I was yet in the Philippines. How I wish I can cook something like that here.

I think the most popular sinigang among pinoys is pork sinigang. I don't eat pork though but I enjoyed sinigang by cooking beef or chicken or fish sinigang. I really do believe that sinigang is the number one favorite dish of Filipinos. In fact even in picnics by the riverside I could see some folks cooking their sinigang. Here look at the attached photo. This is pork sinigang with lots of string beans cooked at the riverside.

Yes, it's one of my favorites too but not number one on my list. I love my mother's sinigang, she uses raw mango to make it sour. When I cook for my husband I use calamansi, or those sinigang mix available at the supermarket.
I have seen that Jessica Soho show too where they featured different styles of cooking sinigang. It helped me give a little idea to improve my own version, so I'm gonna have to try that soon.

hi kourdapya! i love your name cause my cousins used to call me like that when i was young.
i'm also inspired by the show to try the different variations of sinigang. i'm gonna try mango next time. i have seen a recipe of sinigang from cebu in a show years ago and they used ripe mango. they pureed it in a blender and they put it in sinigang...until now i wonder how it tastes.
