Science fiction or science fact?

I used to read a lot of comic books when I was young and a lot of the fiction stuff that I read about 30 years ago seemed unatainable. Today we have cell phones, internet and maybe a Mars voyage in the short future. I think that scientists get some of their vision from science fiction and endeavour to make it a reality. Recently Dr. Craig Venter was able to create a synthetic living cell. Does anyone remember the synthetic being in "Aliens"? What do you think? Does science fiction become science fact?

The biggest reason I love Scifi is that it opens up the mind in creativity and ideals and philosophy.

Wow! Thanks for starting this discussion! Craig Venter is a personal hero of mine! Yes, Science is advancing at a unreal rate! We now have Life from the hands of man! I've read that he wants to further develop his artificial bacteria to stop global warming. That would be extremely beneficial. I just hope scientific advances are used for good and the preservation of life only. You excite me my friend with the mars voyage! Peace out!
