As this week, I did my best to try variety of cooking, not the complicated ones, but the easy one I saw my mom did on the kitchen. I simply beat myself to the bottom. It seems easy when I look at my mom did it, but when I get my hands on it, it is totally different story to tell. I may neglect some steps, or I might done something not right, but the end result is totally far from what I get from my mom. I just find cooking extremely hard for me, but I have to keep on trying, not giving it up that easy. I might have to wait for mom come back from her vacation, and teach me all over again.

For the past 12 months my wife has had to travel an hour every day to work and I offered to cook the evening meal. I wasn't very confident at first because I had only ever cooked simple foods, but now that I have had 12 months of practice, I can cook things OK, and my wife says she enjoys the meals. It is much easier this way because I work at home. _Derek

Yes, cooking is something which improves as you get more confident to try new things and as you develop your tastes to know what goes with what. It was my husband who used to do most of the cooking a few years ago, but I took over and now cook meals for the 6 of us and I think I am quite a good cook now!

I'm not really into cooking because I grew up with my mother and two older sisters cooking for the family so I was not that inclined to learn. When I got married I had no choice but to learn it, but I was surprised to myself because it was not as hard as I thought. I find it easy to cook, and I think we just have to use our instinct and plain common sense to make some decent meal.

I had to learn to cook when I got married too. At home, I was too reliant on my mother who did all the cooking.

No I do not find cooking hard. You need to get a good cook book. I would recommend Better Homes andGardens Basic cookbook. Their recipes are kitchen tested. It contains everything you need to know. Follow the recipies exactly. The brand of ingrediants that you buy will make a big difference in the end product. Cooking like everything takes practice. Best of luck to you.

Actually its very simple. Start from simple dishes, which needs no tough frying. Start from cooking instant noodles, macroni where the instructions are given in the pack. You will get to see lot of simple dishes in youtube, you can learn by watching them cook step by step....happy cooking...

for me it's not but for other people i think it depends on the recipe or dish and on the mood of the person cooking. even if the dish is very simple and easy, but if the person cooking it is not in the good mood, something wrong might happen or he will not enjoy the dish.

Not at all. Actually I love cooking, I experiment with lot of dishes. I prepare with lot of interest. At times there are time consuming dishes which needs lot of patience. Some find it hard even to cook simple ones. It all depends on your culinary skills, your interest. If you are a foodie then cooking should come easy for you. They say those who eat well cook well.

Yes, because I haven’t experienced different varieties of dishes. I can cook rice, I can friend rice, fish and meat. I can boil egg and I can sautéed anything but after that, nothing. I never learn to cook even my father is a great cook and even my mother is. Maybe because I don’t have a time and they are always in the kitchen to do that. I admire you for trying your best, continue doing that and I wish your mother comes home.

Hello kingparker!
It depends on what dish I have to prepare. Generally though, I do not find cooking extremely hard. In fact, it is something I really enjoy doing.
Since this discussion is 3 years old, I suppose many things have changed. How is your cooking now? Are you doing better at it?

I'm fortunate that I am gifted with the ability to cook well, because I enjoy eating. But, on the other hand, I enjoy eating too much, so it's a challenge to cook and eat with restraint.

I follow a recipe so for me cooking is not hard. My husband also cooks which is great because it helps me out. Cooking just takes practice. Try going to frugal cooking web sites. They are great because they do not require many ingredients amd are easy to follow. Also, go to Campbell's kitchen and look up recipes there. Most of them are easy to follow.

Nothing I cook is ever as good as when my mom makes it. She just has the special touch, I guess. Cooking has gotten easier for me the more I do it. A lot of my problem is that I don't have a lot of counter space to prepare food on so it makes it hard.

It was extremely hard for my ex-roomate becacuse she tried to do evetrything as it is written in the book.If let's say she has a little bit less of something she wouldn't try to prepare it because it wouldn't become as it has to be.I however love cooking and do it with my own taste.I put different spices so that it tastes delicious.

Be it an easy thing or difficult thing to prepare, you must always get the measurements right for any dish. Even if it is for salt, you must know how much you should add [for eg some vegetables would take less salt due to the inherent natural salts and the water content in it and because the end product would have shrunk a lot] ask your mother to give the recipe and write it down.THis will be your first step in learning it properly. If it si a sweet dish too you must know when you must add the sugar .
If you do this frequently, you will get an idea and automatically the measurements will get registered and you will get it right. Secondly, there would be some small tricks for which you need to observe carefully and strictly adhere to what you observe. Keep trying ; you are very young.WHen motivation is good you will definitely learn to cook as well as your mother. Adherence to measurements, application of mind and meticulous care make a dish good.

Hi kingparker! Don't get yourself upset over learning how to
cook! Start off with easy things! It takes time to learn how
to cook! There are all different ways of cooking! You would be
surprised how easy it is if you start with simple things like
making things on top of the stove in one pan! Don't try to
do things exactly like your Mom! She has been cooking for a
very long time! I did learn from watching my Mom, her Mom and
my Great Grandmother! I started out with easy stuff and went
on the make some of the harder stuff later on! Now I have made
up my own dishes! I love to cook! I mess things up every now
and then! Just take your time and it will get easier!

Cooking is hard but when you learned the basics..Taste becomes better and better as you practice your cooking skills..Traditional cooking is good but sometimes you have to experiment new styles to your cooking..It best to create your own way of preparing food..and don't get frustrated if the outcome is not what you've expected..
TRY and TRY!!!kwidos!!

I am a good cook but do not cook very often as there is maid for that. I do not feel like cooking everyday but sometimes I want to eat what I cook and that is the day of my cooking.
I suggest you to help your mom when she is back. There is double profit, you will learn cooking and she will be happy that you are helping her.

Don't give up, keep trying.
I first I was like you, I make the foot taste so weird.
But I keep trying and suddenly I understand the basic, after I understand its become more easy to cook.
Its need a lot of experiment in the kitchen to make us an expert so keep practicing.
In cooking process is very important like you wanna to grill beef, you can not straightly grill it you have to marinade it in the fridge for few hour up to one night, to make it really tasty.

It depends on the dish that you will cook.. there are dishes easy to prepare and there are complicated. Your case, if you really want to learn either hard or easy to prepare dishes, its completely up to you. Learning how to prepare it will later on makes it easy for you to do
