Film, song or both :)

Which is your favourite - the film or the song version of Pretty Woman?
I have to say they have equal importance for me - the song has always made me feel good, the beat and tempo work really well as mood lifters for me and the feeling that Roy Orbison put into that song always makes me smile, whereas the film is one of my all time favourites.
There was such chemistry between Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, you could just see how much they enjoyed making that movie together and they almost made a really sugary story line believable I thought. Who doesn't want to see a happy ending occasionally however improbable it may be. I thought the way that the film shared itself between funny and poignant moments and the chemistry between the actors was what made it work and for me it continued the uplifting feeling that the song always gives me.
I could watch this movie once a week and not get tired of seeing it :)

Well, originally it was the song. I remember hearing it for the first time. But then when the movie came out it was the movie. I mean Julia Roberts and all the great scenes. Richard was almost talorable in it as well. Hehe

And I love the part where his partner tries something with her and he tells him off. And the last scene where he goes to get her. I am such a romantic! These movies get to me real quick. Have you seen A Mirror Has Two Faces with Jeff Bridges and Barbs? Cute one.

I love the bit where he goes to get her too - and the scenes she has with the Hotel Manager where he goes from being embarrassed that she's in his hotel and trying to get rid of her to respecting her and inviting her back, then telling Richard Gere that the Limo Driver took her home the day before...
I haven't seen the Mirror Has Two Faces, I shall have to look out for it - I like Jeff Bridges a lot and most of Barbs films. I'm waiting to see Crazy Heart - did you see that yet, I've heard good things about it?

Hi snow, thanks for dropping in - have you noticed how it's mostly us girls who are enthralled with this movie lol :)
Actually my hubby really likes it too - and it takes a lot to keep him awake when watching a movie, we normally stick to watching action films or he nods off, but something about Pretty Woman works for him too :)

For me I prefer the song, it's such an iconic song and really puts you in such a good mood.
As for the film, well it's okay and better than when Gere and Roberts reunited for The Runaway Bride, but it doesn't really wow me as it does for so many others. I think for me the movie works purely on the pairing of Gere and Roberts and as such it disguises some issues when it comes to the storyline. But then I watch a heck of a lot of films and even ones which I once enjoyed can become boring when you see so many similar ones, which is my excuse for not liking it as much as others, lol.

it's strange how some songs do become so iconic isn't it and have you humming and foot tapping the minute you hear the opening bars :)
I hear what you're saying about so many similar films out there, there's only so much they can do with a romantic storyline after all - it's just that for me, at least, Pretty Woman is the epitome of all those films, their chemistry almost makes it believable and I think that fundamentally many of us want to believe that somewhere out there fairy tales do come true cos life takes a lot of work most days lol

I have to say both! Great movie and great song, although I will have to say that it is difficult to decide which version of the song that I like better, Van Halen or the original by Roy Orbison.
Hard to believe but now the movie is considered a classic, boy do I feel old. Time for a cup of coffee. :0)

I totally agree with you about the movie Pretty Women. I love that movie and think it was one of Julia Roberts best performances. I too could watch it all the time. I have lost track of how many times I have seen that movie. It would be great if they did a Pretty Women Part II, where they show them getting married and then their married life with children. Maybe her best friend coming to her for help of getting her life back on track and Richard Gere gets involved in helping her. It would be great to see both of them together in a movie again.

Yeah, I often wondered what could be done with a sequel, their chemistry is so good in that film, it would be nice to see them living happily ever after with the odd disagreement thrown in, (they're meant to be human after all lol), and both of them working hard to maintain their relationship and bring up kids, maybe doing lots of charity work, helping more than just her friend to get their lives back on track...
hmm now there's a thought!

I have always liked this song. it has such a feel good momentum to it. The film version definitely puts a different spin on it. I have watched the film severaal times. It is one of my favorites. Between the film and the song, my favorite will always be the song. It gets your heart pumping.

hi sender, thanks for telling us your views on this, funnily enough I am just listening to another song that always gets my heart pumping while I'm reading your comment (Rock with You by Michael Jackson, reminds me of my teenage days and always makes me want to dance..)

For me the song Pretty Woman has been tied since my youth with Elvis Presley. I always love a movie that has one of his songs as I loved Elvis. THe movie, on the other hand, is maybe one of the best romantic movies I have seen, with a very modern Cinderella and a prince that ends up going to propose in his modern horse.
The "godfather" The Hotel Manager, is an incredible character too and there are many situationsthat are just perfect, as the moment Richard Gere takes her back to buy her clothes.

I loves both the film and songs because both are just as important. I would say songs are somewhat like the fresh green leaves to a stalk of rose, bringing out band complimenting the beauty of it. The songs in the movie did a great job in bringing out the feel of the movie in a way that it makes me feels as if the movie came to life as a real life story.
