Your Secret Paradise

I have to admit one thing that I love to do and haven't for quite some time is travel. No matter what form, I love visiting other places and it doesn't have to be out of the state that I live in either. I can go an hour from home and be happy visiting a little town.
I must admit though, when I lived in Hawaii, I had a place that I loved to go and just felt comfortable there, it was actually a little beach area. I would take a book, a cup of coffee and my favorite folding chair, sit close to the water, so my feet would be in the water the whole time keeping me cool as I read a book and drank my coffee. I think this was probably only one of the times that I would actually sit still. I felt as if I was in my own secret paradise.
Today, I think about that little secret place of mine and miss it oh so much. I haven't found a new secret paradise yet, it seems I don't really have time for that these days.
Do you like to travel? Do you have a special place that you like to visit often?

i love going to the beach; especially watching sunsets on the beach. i don't get to go as much as i'd like to because the nearest beach to where i live is about a two hour drive. and now that it's summer there are just too many people. i like the beach when it's quiet.

I must say that it is by far more relaxing to hear the waves crashing around you drowning out the noise of traffic from a near by road. Or seeing the turtles creating nests on the beach at my feet, knowing that they didn't find me a threat. Where I live now, we have the Guadalupe river, it isn't quite the same, but, I do find peace in being near the water.

When I lived in Kent Folkestone was my secret paradise. I liked to walk along the cliffs looking at the spectacular sea views. I enjoyed walking through the sub tropical garden. I saw many hardy looking palms in it. I moved to where I live now five years ago. In this area I have two places I think at great to be paradises. I know of a stretch of coastline with fine sea views. There are some hardy palms, wooden benches and a view of a joined to land island.

I can only imagine what the views must be like. Wow, I love nature, it is amazing what it can do for your soul.
I find the drive into work peaceful and helpful to help me unwind sometimes, but I know that drive is only leading me either home or back to work.

Your secret paradise sounds so nice. I sort of have one myself and it's just a walk away. I live at a beach and in the evenings the water goes to a color of white from the pink reflection of the sky. There's a little semi-circle cove-like spot where no one ever goes so it's private as well. I like to do the same as you when it comes to taking my book along and it's so peaceful.
Take care

It must be pure heaven living on the beach. At one time, I had wished for a house on the beach. A part of me was frightened of it of course because of all the stories that I would hear growing up when bad weather would hit the coasts, but during the calmer parts of seasons, I never let it bother me, i thought how great it would be to fall asleep and wake hearing the waves crash against the shore, being able to look out across the water during sun up and sun down. The smell of the salt in the air and watching the birds that would wonder around the beach area.

My answer will surprise you because I think this is not much of a secret but my secret paradise is the nearest mall because whenever I just want to get away and spend some quality time with myself. I just go there and watch a movie alone or play at the arcade. It is not exactly what most would think of a secret paradise but when in the city, it is very difficult to find a beach where one can just chill so I settled for the mall. lol.

You are right, your answer is quite surprising. I like to shop, but after a while, I get bored with it and don't want to do it any more, I find it to be a chore, I think it is because every week, I do the grocery shopping and any other items we may need to get by with.
If I shop for clothing, I tend to look and grab something that catches my eye. I don't like to try clothes on in the store, I think it takes to much time. I feel I have a pretty good idea of what my body size is and well, frankly am a pretty good judge of what might look okay on me. Yes, I have come across those that don't, but that's okay, you can return the items.

Well, that place in Hawaii sounds idyllic! I would love that with the book and the coffee! I have a couple of special places I have visited over the years. I used to love going to Cambridge (in the UK, where I live), as it is pretty and peaceful. When my Uncle killed himself in 1987, my parents and I had a day out in Cambridge and it was very calming and good to get away from the stress.

Sorry to hear about your Uncle. It is good to have a place that you can go to where you do feel comfort and peace.
So many of us find comfort in food, but sometimes that just isn't enough, we do need to get away from our troubles and worries just to think and hopefully get into a better state of mind.
I wish I had that little piece of beach right now, I could sure use it.
