hi jugsjugs that also ticks me off and makes me want to throw those stones back at the person doing that.Of courseI do not as that would not help anything, I will not tolerate abusing animals if I am around someone who doesthatI will try to stop them. there was a pond at a local library here in Orange County where the library staff keep a flock of ducks for people to enjoy watching them. we could get sacks of bread crumbs to throw at them. but I caught two boys about fifteen or sixten who had put large pebbles in a sack and I stopped them. they thought it was funny to pelt these inncoent ducks with their ducklings with those stones. They were not any too happy with me but they left. one of the librarians told me those boys had been caught before and once had called the police on them, as they are now denied inside the library or to takeout any media from the library. I never sawy them again which made me happy. I did patronize that library a lot during those years. Thosetwo acted like little spoilded brats when I took away their sack of rocks. One of the other vistors there actually took them by the arms and paraded them off the premises. the man told them if they returned he would kick their butts.he was not as gentle as I had been and I think they were a bit afraid of him. after all most people around there knew he was an off duty policeman that worked nights.

Those two boys Hatley should have been arrested and taken to an animal shelter, and made to work off a fine for a week with the animals, taking care of them. They got off too easy. I say we go on a campaign and we teach the animals how to throw stones back at people, a few good knocks on the head might teach them a lesson, haha.

I think that there should be a fine issued to the parents of the children that do cruel things to animals as that way there would be less people being cruel and as for the adults i think that if they are caught throwing things at animals i think that they should have a large fine as that way in future this may mean less people being cruel in the future as they will know that they will get a big fine when caught.

It never enters their tiny minds that turning the hose on the cat might be a better choice.

I know i just think that there are alot of nasty people out there.I have also seen children throw stones at cats and the cats were not even in their garden, so why do they throw the stones if the cats are not doing anything wrong.

It's a game and they have seen adults do it so they know it's alright, they never consider the cat and what it feels.

I feel the same way you. It's not a good sight and certainly disheartening to see people doing that. I also don't like animals to be in my garden or anywhere within the parameter of my property but throwing stones at them is not right. I am actually looking for a plant commonly known as scaredy cat, it's scientific name is coleus canina. Its smell repels cat, dogs, rabbits and other animals. It's available in U.S and Europe but I can't find it here in my country.

I am like you i think that if people do not want the cats to go in their gardens or if they do not want the cats to go in their house then they should only throw water at them.I was in a persons garden one day and the threw a golf ball at a cat that had come in their garden, thankfully the golf ball missed the cat, i was not happy and i told them that.

Well I'm angry too if some people do these nasty things to cats; I love cats in fact I have three. I believe these kind of people are sadistic and need to be mentally examined. They are also a threat to society; if they can hurt a cat how much more on humans?

I think people like doing horrid things like that as it makes them look like they are a hard nut infront of some people.I have 5 cats and i think that if people do not like cats and do not want them to come into their garden then throw water as that will not injure the cat.

somebody threw a rock at my original cat in my own yard once-he got the surprise of his life when my almost 6'5 dad came out from behind his car and lifted him off his feet and threatened to throw him at a rock..

I would like to throw a stone at those guys. But then, on the other hand, I would hope the cat owners would keep their cats on their own property. I have enough trouble with rabbits and squirrels, so it is fortunate that my nice neighbors keep their cats and dogs on their side of the fence, as we live pretty close in here.

Cats tend to roam no matter how high your fence is they tend to climb it.I do not mind people shewing the cat or throwing water over my cat if they do not want it in their garden but a friend of mines cat has been stoned in the past by her old neighbours and they were the children that were throwing stones at the cat.

I can tell you why....there are alot of really mean people out there. You are so right, a little water, or even a "Boo!" will scare a cat off. I think they feel powerful when they can hurt things, makes them feel big and strong. Man will always be barbaric I'm afraid.

I have an idea. I say we go around and teach all the little critters self defense. Can you picture this?...You are looking into your neighbor's yard, you see a poor helpless defenseless kitty just meandering around in the garden playing with the butterflies. Your neighbor comes out and starts throwing stones and rocks at the poor little kitty. ALL OF A SUDDEN....that little kitty picks up a rock with his tiny little paw, stands on his hind legs, and whips it back at your neighbor and conks him right in the noggin!!!!, haha!!! I love it!!!!, and I would love to see this happen..what a shocker!! In another one of your responses, Hatley, was talking about some teen boys who were throwing rocks at poor little baby ducks and the mama duck. Could you see this duck out of the clear blue sky grab a stone with his little wing and whip it back?? Are you picturing all this? Wouldn't it be just awesome! Yea!! I would cheer so loud, haha!

I think that when people are caught throwing objects at animals then they should at least be getting a fine for their actions as perhaps that way there will be alot less people doing these things as they will know that if they are seen they will be fined.I think you are right that these people feel hard and big doing this.

Thankfully I've never seen anyone do this. However, if I were to see someone doing that to an animal I would be very, very mad. With our kitty when he is misbehaving we will get our hands damp and flick the water at Cornbread. Unfortunately this isn't as effective with Cornbread as it is with a lot of cats because he was a stray and lived outside during our wet winter. However, it does serve as a form of deterrent for him.

Hi Jugsjugs I really don't like to hear when animals are being mistreated thats just not right I have a cat and it would really make me angry for him to be treated that way thats one of the reasons why I'm glad he's and indoor cat The cats your talking about must be strays it would be best just to throw water or get a hose to them they don't like water and that will surely get rid of them for a while anyway. But it won't hurt them and much more humane than throwing stones at them there are some real sick and sadistic people in the world today with nothing else better to do with their time

I have 5 cats and i know that if anyone was to throw water aswell as make a loud noise like clapping they would soon run away from that so i do not see why some people are soo cruel and feel like they have to hurt an animal in order to get it to go away.Where i live people let their cats go in and outside as they please aswe all have cat flaps. There are a few stray cats that are about and they are no trouble as they tend to do their own thing, but still there are alot of children that throw stones at cats.

Hillo, this isn't conservatory of cat enthusiasts, i know that. so as i have a cat and am enthused about using water to spray him when he's bad (a newly acquired, when he scratches the rug... yet not so new idea), i feel bad when walking throughout the neighborhood because of the barking dogs. i need some news on what to do to kee pthem from barking (besides being the dog whisperer'', I feel a public apllied apology is necessary because i for one hate dogs. they bark and hurts my ears. they will bark just about anywhere at anything . the neighbors dog never shuts up and has a viciuous demeaner (sp?) when i walk past, which is about every other day. i can shout, that doesn't work, and was my first inclosed idea. now the other night as it\the neighbor's dog was crazed yiping at people i managed to in secrecy pick pup some stones and with a few handfuls threw them at the dog. now none hit the dog, and they weren't large stones, just gravvvveell sized *imagines. none hit the dog, tho he is probably all bark. and i am conducive to feed the fffff dog some treats, i just feel bad herm

Hi Jugs..This infuriates me!!! If I see something like that being done, I will stop my car, or my walk or whatever i'm doing and approach that person. I know I probably shouldn't because there are so many crazy people out there and anyone who would harm a cat isn't right in the head to begin with. Cats are not bothering anybody by walking through a yard or a garden or whatever. They are free roaming animals by law and really have the right to do that. They mean no harm and don't deserve such behavior. I asked a kid once that I say throwing big rocks at a cat if he would mind standing against the wall of a building while I hurled rocks at him. He looked at me like I was crazy. He says, no, I don't think so and so I asked him "than what gives you the right to throw rocks at that harmess cat?" No answer of course..I don't trust anyone who would hurt an animal. I hate them actually and would have no problem hurting them and would sleep very well that night. Two wrongs do not make a right, but someone has to help those that can't help themselfs..Worse even. One day I saw a man hurl out of his speeding car on the interstate a black trash bag. Later I heard on the news that the bag was full of kittens and it caused a 3 car crash..How could you be so cold..If you have the energy to bag the kittens, take them in the car to the interstate and throw them out then why the hell can't you take them to the Humane Society where they will surely get homes. (kittens always do) As you can tell this is a very sore subject for me being the animal lover I am and being involved in 3 organizations that help abused, stray and unwanted dogs and cats..It makes my blood boil...

I know what you are saying. When i see children doing this i shout at them and i will ask them if they have any pets and when they say they have a dog or a rabbit i will tell them that if i catch them ever again throwing stones then i will send the rspca to take their pets as they are cruel to animals, where as a friend of mine tends to tell them that she will throw a brick at them.I think that the people that hurt the animals are the main people that never had pets as children that aswell as they are not the type of person i would want to be assosiated with.I also home cats aswell as i have taken in a stray dog with a few problems.

I can't understand why people are so cruel either. Why would anyone have anything against cat's? Or dogs for that matter or any animal. Ok if you don't like them just make a sound and they will probably run away...but stones...can you be any more primitive than that? I really don't understand some people!

There are alot of cruel and heartless people out there and some of the people that throw stones are children and this is for no reason for them to get away with it.I have always taught my children to be nice to all animals where as alot of people when they were growing up perhaps never had pets so perhaps thats why they are nasty to animals.

I think that is absolutely awful. Some people have so little regard for animals just because they aren't humans and it absolutely sickens me. There were other ways to go about getting an animal off of your property without seriously injuring it. I could never harm an animal in this way at all. Some people are just really a piece of work and it's disgusting.

You are right there, perhaps if a few people were to get a fine when seen doing these things then perhaps it may stop a few people from doing it.I think that perhaps some people think that they are hard doing these things, i do know that these people are very heartless.

I agree with you. I think that is very mean and unkind. Even if they dont like the cat, it belongs to someone and they should respect it.

When I first started working at Maggie's place, she was keeping a cat but not officially. So, each day I would have to put the cat out at the end of the day. One afternoon, this child, that then lived across the hall from her called the cat over, and tried to kick her. (Gee, I wonder why Minnie doesn't like children - I wonder why I don't like children.) I had just gotten into my car, but I kind of had a bad feeling about this and was watching. I came out of that car so fast, and roared "NO!" (doesn't matter the child only spoke Spanish - its the SAME!) His mom also saw him (and probably me too) she grabbed him away from the cat and swatted his back end and also told him "No!" I must say, that child was a lot more wary of me, and the cat, after that... I haven't had a lot of interaction with her neighbors until the last one, because they didn't speak much English, but that was one set of neighbors I was GLAD to see go!

I know some people who just simply hate cats for god knows what reason. They don't think of how the cat feels because they really don't care. They look at it as some lower life form.
