Just saw Shrek 4 in 3d Imax. Is all this 3D IMAX hype worth while?

I want to say anyone that is old school like myself and believes these 3d movies on Imax are a new fancy way to collect more money is just wrong. I thought the same thing until I saw Shrek on Friday in 3d on Imax. What an experience! It may be finally worth your time and money and lets all admit movies are way to expensive these days, but 3d Imax movies are worth every penny. Give it shot before you knock it. Trust me, all movies should be done like this and finally going to the movies is an exciting worth wile experience again.

I think it depends on the movie itself. I saw Avatar in 3D and the movie actually utilized the technology very well. I had a man beside me jumping because of the bugs "flying off" the screen, it really absorbed you into the world. However, then I saw Clash of the Titans in 3D and I wasn't really impressed. There were a few moments that were enhanced by the technology but for the most part I think I would have enjoyed it in regular format.
I really want to see Shrek though. Sounds like its a good one.

Man, hearing your description of Avatar really makes me wish that I had seen it in IMAX 3D now. I actually haven't seen it at all. I heard it was a good movie, but not as amazing storywise as everyone made it out to be. But now I'm really interested hearing how detailed it was and how much it utilized the technology. For a movie like that I would certainly find it appropriate to make it 3D.

I have seen every movie they have made in IMAX 3D, not bragging cause it sort of is a little sad but I have. Shrek tops them all so far. Avatar was good but the all animated films are always the best. Even if they are kids movies. I am just waiting for the day a Japanese all out KICK %$$% COMIC STYLE Animated movie comes out in Imax 3D. The good news is this is really just the beggining its only going to get better.

Well I went to the movies and watched Alice and Wonderland. It is the first 3D movie i've ever watched. I thought there were a couple of cool parts. But for the most part it just hurt my eyes. I think I will stick to my regular big screen movies and eat my over buttered pop corn. And it is so good!

I don't believe that all movies should be done in 3D just because for some I feel it'd be inappropriate. It's all about spectacle which is not the point of some movies. I did see Alice In Wonderland in IMAX 3D which was my first IMAX movie (but not my first 3D film) and I really enjoyed that movie that way because I felt as thought it worked brilliantly for that particular film. Just not for every one.
