We use ground turkey for most everything we would use ground beef for. They arent as good for burgers unless you really dress it up. But spaghetti, sauces, tacos etc it works just as good and is cheaper and healthier.
Have you ever tried to substitute ground beef? Our local walmart now sells one pound rolls of ground turkey in taco flavor or Italian flavor. The Italian is very spicy so when using it in sauce, you have to add no or hardly no spices. The 1 pound roll is $1. Much cheaper than ground beef which is now priced at about $2.50 per pound.

MSPITOT: If you ever find roasted turkey, be sure it's roasted by someone familiar with the correct spices & instructions, or you'll end up with a rather unpleasant meal. It has a tendency to overcook unless properly sealed & basted, especially if you lack the proper cookware, or you might result in a a bird less than moist enough. Get a bird too old, the flavor dwindles with age. As it's large bird, you might also end up with it half cooked, half raw, as happened to me, once.
It's a rather long & laborious process, but, if everything is done correctly, it has an unforgettable, marvelous flavor. I think you might enjoy smoked flavor best.

I'll vouch for what you said, & I really need to get out of the beef habit, myself, due to my gigglegiggle "finances," such as they are.... I'll go you one further, however; I'd take it plain & add my own spices, which would be even cheaper!
As for the beef I've had I use the leanest possible (7% fat) in recipes, but you're right, it's still not as healthy as turkey for you.
Shoot. Now I want some black forest ham! You wanna talk about a budget buster! I must remember not to read stuff such as this post when I haven't eaten supper, yet!

Woops, see my reply elsewhere here. There's the big box across my screen that I cannot SEE around, & although it has an X on it--it refuses to go!
Look for my comment under someone else's reply..& look for the word MYSTERY. As in it's a MYSTERY why I can't get this stupid box out of my way!!!

I traded in my ground beef for turkey about 2yrs ago. I bought somet o try it out like you said you can find it for roughly a dollar for a lb roll so it was worth a shot. The family didn't notice til after I told them & I've been using it ever since. Though you are right you can't really make a nice burger yourself with it, unless you can find some pre-made. Don't forget to that $2.50+ /lb was usually for the stuff with higher fat content wich isn't good for your heart and I don't enjoy stuff with alot of grease especially late in the day for dinner.

It does shrink some when you are cooking it. Another nice point besides the price is, unless you added too much water when frying it... there's no grease to drain form it either!

I gave up beef along time ago. Yes I have used ground turkey for meatloaf, spaghetti sauce, burgers, tacos and chili. Its a great substitute for beef and like you said its so much more healthier then the beef. In fact I will probably be making turkey burgers this weekend for our cookout.

I like turkey but i have never tried ground turkey. I try to eat healthy but i don't think i could give up beef all together. I like it to much. Probably because the beef that my family and I eat doesen't come from a store so it taste better.

My mom has used ground turkey for years. I got started using it, but mixing it half and half with ground beef. A lot of it for me was because you could buy the 1 lb roll at Aldis for just .69.
Over the years I went strictly to ground turkey. However, in our area now it costs almost as much per pound as the ground beef, which is pretty high is you ask me.
Now, I live with 2 others who just don't want ground turkey at all. A couple of times I've mixed it with ground beef and they never knew, but otherwise, they usually buy the meat and I just cook.

Hi Laglen
I have been substituting ground turkey for beef for over 23 years. I stopped eating beef about 27 years ago and pork the same amount of time. Ground turkey is delicious and your right it can be used in place of beef for any recipe the ground beef is used for.
And your also right when you say its cheaper to buy ,I don't each very much ground turkey at all anymore as I have incorporated more vegetables whole grains, and fresh fruit in my diet I try to have only about 10% of my diet to include meat I eat a lot of fish now instead I also have cut way back on lunch meat since it too is processed I don't eat nearly as much of it as I used to but I will say this when I do go to the deli its turkey products all the way
