Have you seen the Oscar winner movie Hurt Locker? I've seen it last week on dvd, but I don't agree that it won Oscar's best picture!!Sorry!! the story is not that special but the actors are quite good in terms of their acting!! But for me Avatar or Inglorious ---astard is a better movie!! Peace!!

Now I am one of those thank think “The Hurt Locker” deserved the Best Picture award because that award in particular covers many areas such as storyline, originality, direction, action, special effects, cinematography and not to forget acting. As such for me “The Hurt Locker” delivered the most in all of those areas when compared to other nominated movies, which whilst may have been better in one of those areas lacked significantly in others. A prime example of which is “Avatar” which is visually out of this world but the storyline was boring.
But I can understand why many disagree with “The Hurt Locker” winning because it’s not your normal commercial crowd pleaser, it has a different sort of storyline, a different narrative arc and an almost raw documentary feel to it. As such many people just don’t get it, don’t see why it’s so good because it is different to what people are use to when it comes to a major movie.

The story of Avatar is not new,, your right but the delivery of the story is good than Hurt Locker..I didn't say that Hurt Locker is not a good movie it's just that it is not delivered or presented good for me!!When I watched it I fell asleep..That's what you called a "boring movie"..
I've watched hundreds of movie even the old movies that showed before I was born,
If it is a great movie it should make you awake from beginning till the end!
The actors in Hurt Lockers are good.. the story is good... but I don't think that it is directed good enough!!
I respect all of your opinions and I already expected that lots of people will agree nor disagree......PEACE Again!!

Hurt locker is a well directed movie and the actors were good too...Avatar good movie , stunning visuals and screenplay but comeon people have'nt we seen this story before. essentially it has the same theme as Pocahontas , dances with wolves to name a few..there is nothing new in Avatar . Inglorius basterds was a good watch but i don't think its oscar material.....

I felt like it was a really great movie, goes along with the recent Oscar style, like that of No Country for Old Men, or Slumdog Millionaire. Really packing a powerful message with an innovative style. Avatar didn't have the message, but it had loads of style.

I've watched all the movies that you mentioned. And personally I think Hurt Locker is the best among the three. Don't get me wrong. All three movies are good. I also think Up in the Air is better than Avatar. I like Avatar but it's very similar to other movies I have watched before. The only difference is of course the technology that was used to create the film.

I agree with you my friend, i don't really think that it can beat the Avatar. My prediction was they give the best director to Katherine Bigelow and gave the best picture to Avatar. It did not happened though. But my take on this why they let the Hurt Locker got the best picture is somewhat politicized. The Hurt Locker movie glorifies the US soldier and they need this boast since US military and government are heavily criticized for engaging the war in Iraq. While the Avatar vilified the US military. I think this is one of te main reason why they let Hurt Locker won over the Avatar.

I think Oscar voters are often prejudiced against movies with a lot of special effects. They also don't always go with the most popular movie. In this case, I think they wanted to go against the grain and give the award to a movie made by a woman. That migt be bending over backward to be "politically correct".
