Suman is a snack made up of sticky rice and it tastes great with sugar or peanut sauce.
I wonder if anyone outside the philippines has tried this because my sister is planning on advertising it on her blog to get overseas orders
hmmm i wonder
would it even be appealing to foreigners?
suman is delicious but the packaging just hasn't changed for centuries
so i wonder

Suman is one of the many delicious Filipino native delicacies my mother is expertly creating every now and then. I think there is one problem you will encounter if you want to export some "Suman" abroad: Suman's average shelf-life is 3 days. After that 3 days, spoiling begins. How will you deal with it?

You can try adding acceptable amount of preservatives. If you can find natural alternatives, natural preservatives, better.

I love suman, and I think foreigners would love it too. You should also make those chocolate ones...but won't it get spoiled i it's going to be shipped outside our country?

we've devised a plan to preserve it's freshness if ever it's exported
and suman has a lifespan of 24 to 48 hours
after that it'll just be bad

I just read this after I posted. It cannot sustain exportation regulations if the lifespan is 24 to 48 hours. It has to be at least a month to get the government's approval. If you plan on further the evolution of your product try to find some preservation specialists they are very easy to find when you look in the right direction. It's a great product and I'd love to see it exported. :)

Maybe you could ask some of your relatives abroad. There would be some who would like to try it.

This food sounds really good, and I need to try it. I am a big fan of sticky rice, and I also like peanut sauce - so I think I would like it. It's quite strange that I haven't tried it already, as I have tasted many different cuisines. I will need to try this treat in the future.

Yeah, your right. Suman is an authentic dishes of filipino. In fact my mother is a veterans in making this filipino kakanin. During peak season or holidays we receive a lot of orders even from outside the country. Some of our costumers bring it abroad, because we made it stay longer in shelftime. It has reached hongkong, canada and US.

Lol suman is awesome and your sister is wise to choose such a product to embark on. However, since I assume you are looking for some suggestions or advice, I'd say it is a good product to export but further your research on preservation and expiration schedules. Make sure also that it is FDA approved and has all the proper papers. And lastly but not the least, packaging is important and should be unique to the country you are planning on selling to. I would like to extend an invitation for my services to you for some opinions suggestions and advice gladly as being a business/ marketing consultant is my day job. just drop me a pm! And good luck to you! :)

I love suman. For me suman is not as appealing when it is not wrapped in banana leaves. I like the one that's made from glutinous rice. The suman from antipolo is good as well but I like the other one I have mentioned.
